The story ofScarlet Nexusplays a massive role in the experience it provides, not unlikemany other JRPG titles. Although its front and center mechanic isits combat system, thestory of the gameis surprisingly complex and expansive. For the player to fully appreciate this game, they’ll need touncover everything the story is hiding, and some of them are found in side quests.

While a massive chunk of the story can be discovered by completing bothYuito and Kasane’s main storyline, the player will miss a lot of interesting and important storylines if they skip out on some of the game’s most awesome side quests. Aside from that, they’ll also gather incredible items and increase team bonds which will make the player more powerful in combat.
10Collecting Phantom Arts
Phantom Arts are needed to get the best,most powerful weapons in the game. While the player can immediately get the Phantom Art items needed for Yuito and Kasane’s ultimate weapon by completing their respective storylines, the player will need to complete side quests to earn those for the companions in the party.
It should be noted that earning the Phantom Arts for a character can only be done by their team leaders. For example, those who want to get the Phantom Art for Hanabi’s ultimate weapon can only do so while playing as Yuito.
9Tsugumi Hunts A Flower For Yuito
As the player gets to know Tsugumi, they’ll immediately find out that one of her greatest interests is gardening. Due to her clairvoyance, she’s able to tend to plants way better than most. At one point, Yuito tells Tsugumi about a flower that has always caught his eye when he was young, and Tsugumi made no short work of figuring out what that flower is.
In Bond Episode 4 with Tsugumi, she and Yuito head to Togetsu to search for this flower. They encounter a few Others along the way, but they eventually find what they’re searching for.
8Gemma Finds Out Secret About Retired OSF Soldiers
Gemma may be the biggest and strongest member of Yuito’s party, but he certainly is a contender for being the softest. The protective gentle giant eventually develops a close bond with Yuito, and in one of the Bond Episodes with him, Gemma discovers something horrible about the retired OSF soldiers.

While searching for an old friend, who’s a retired OSF soldier, with the help of Wataru, they eventually track him down in Mizuhagawa. However, what Gemma ended up discovering is his old friend’s decapitated head, along with those of other retired OSF soldiers.
7Kasane Urges Hanabi To Confess To Yuito
Hanabi is a character who has palpable feelings towards Yuito. Although she tries to hide it, the only person she’s fooling is Yuito himself. Another character who immediately figured this out is Kasane, and in her third Bond Episode with Hanabi, she urges her to go for it.
Hanabi’s third bond episode is simple and serene. It doesn’t involve fighting Others. It’s just Kasane and Hanabi talking about the latter’s feelings. It may lack action, but it’s a very sweet moment between the two characters.
6Kagero Faces Kaito Sumeragi
Kagero is one of the most cheerful, yet also the most enigmatic member of Yuito and Kasane’s party. He’s aloof most of the time, often having fun with the other members. However, when Kagero gets serious, this gives the player a chance to see through the man’s history.
Kagero later reveals to Yuito that it was he who murdered his father. While Yuito ends up letting him go for it, he personally heads to Kaito during his fourth Bond Episode, Yuito’s older brother, to repent for his sins.
5Kyoka Returns To Togetsu
Kyoka is the mother figure of the team. She’s very caring of those around her. While her demeanor is always sweet, the character has a very tragic backstory. It is later revealed that Kyoka is a design child created by Togetsu, crafted using their leader’s DNA.
In an effort to face and let go of her past, she returns to Togetsu with Kasane to meet with a former accomplice. They then end up subduing their target and it is here Kyoka finally lets go of her past and embraces her existence.
4Luka Accepts Being A Dud
Like Yuito, Luka is also a dud. In this game’s world, a dud is someone who was born without innate psycho-kinetic abilities. People like Yuito and Luka who are born duds only have abilities because they were artificially implanted into them. However, they are known to eventually lose their powers.

While this fact doesn’t affect Yuito much, it is one of Luka’s great fears. In multiple bond episodes with both Yuito and Kasane, however, he eventually learns to accept his nature and rise above this fear.
3Kasane And Shiden Saves Seiran
Shiden is a very hot-headed and brash character. His demeanor often results in him clashing with the other members of the team. He seems particularly abrasive towards Kasane because he is envious of her natural talent and skills.
While he sees her as a rival, Kasane is more helpful towards him. During the character’s fourth Bond Episode, he seemingly escapes to Seiran, wanting to leave the team in fear of being too weak. He later proves himself wrong when the area is attacked by multiple Others, which he and Kasane eventually get rid of.
2Arashi’s Concerns For Fubuki
When Arashi is on the job, she’s known to be very competent and precise. Her hypervelocity also allows her to deal properly with the media, being OSF’s PR representative. However, when she’s not on the clock, she is the most relaxed and laid-back person on the team that she can even be construed as lazy.
Through her Bond Episodes with Yuito, she creates a device that allows one to relax a little more. Yuito eventually realizes that this device is meant for Fubuki, Arashi’s brother, who drowns himself in work. Arashi’s concern for her brother is also highlighted during a Bond Episode with Kasane where she frantically tracks down her brother who has been reported missing.
1Team Bond Episodes
Team Bond Episodes are only triggered whenevery member in the partyreaches certain bond levels. These episodes involve everyone in the party and raise the Team Bond Level.
Aside from the obvious benefits of doing the Team Bond Episodes, these side quests will also give the player a glimpse of how everyone interacts and works together outside of combat. These episodes are charming and sweet and moments like these are some of the best in the game.
