Tricks and glitches have been a part of gaming culture for as long as there have been players to find them. Even though it isn’t very common in the newer generations, there was a time where players prided themselves on their ability to execute game-breaking exploits, passing the knowledge down in lunchrooms, bus stops, or online forums.

Some of these glitches made the games easier for the player, and then there are those that aren’t necessarily useful, but still cool to see nonetheless. TheSuper Nintendohad its fair share of such glitches, as did many other consoles of that era. For now though, here are 10 crazy glitches on theSuper Nintendo(and what they do).
10Donkey Kong Country Mine Cart Level Glitch
The minecart stage inDonkey Kong Countryis notorious for being extremely difficult. The level seems to go on forever and is full of very tricky jumps the player needs to time perfectly to complete it. The game is already fairly tough, but it seems like the minecart stages were made to be especially hard.

So why not just fly through the level? There is a glitch where the payer can enter the level and perform unlimited jumps across the stage, avoiding the need to use the minecarts at all.
9Super Mario World Orb Trick
Ever just want to skip a level? With thisSuper Mario Worldglitch, it’s possible. In Yoshi’s Island 1, there is a combination of moves that if pulled off properly, will give the player an “orb” in the item box. This item can be used in any stage to automatically clear the level, bypassing it completely. This is a very handy trick, especially in the latter part of the game where the levels are a bit harder to beat.
8Super Mario Kart Lap Skip
InSuper Mario Kartthere are a few glitches and tricks players can pull off depending on what track is being played. In Donut Plains 1, at the very start of the race, there is a trick that can be done to skip laps, jumping the player ahead of the rest of the racers.

Theglitchis extremely hard to do, but if done successfully, races can be finished in mere seconds.
7Earthbound Skip Sandwich Trick
There is a fairly useful trick inEarthboundthat allows players to pass through certain cliffs that are normally not traversable. By walking into the nooks of the cliff, switching between horizontal and vertical movements, the player can walk through the edge of the cliff, potentially gaining access to areas that normally be off-limits to later in the game.
6Sim City $999,999 Bug
This glitch will make it much easier for players to create whatever they want, by giving them access to a large amount of money early on.

Starting with adjusting the tax settings to $0, then spending all of their money on Fire Departments and Police Departments, when the annual tax screen pops up, the player will be able to trigger a bug (the L button must be held while doing this) to make the game think they have earned $999,999.
5Final Fantasy II Item Duplication
This useful exploit allows the players to duplicate items, by managing the player’s inventory in a certain way, entering a battle, then subsequently running away. If done correctly this can trick the game into doubling items in the inventory, including special or unique weapons. This is also helpful for creating items to sell to increase the amount of money a player has. Very reminiscent of the rare candy glitch fromPokemonRed and Blue.
4Contra III Level Skip
It would have been too easy to go with the 30 man cheat code, but just in case it’s DOWN, DOWN, RIGHT, RIGHT, START. Besides extra lives, there is also a way to trick the game into thinking the level has been cleared. This is another tricky one, but if the player earns an extra life at the same time as they lose their final life, instead of the game over screen, the level cleared screen should pop up.
3Yoshi’s Island 1up Trick
Contrahas the 30 man code, but what if 30 isn’t enough? How about unlimited? InSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Islandthere is a useful trick that can be done in world 4-1, where the player can generate as many lives as they need.

It’s very similar to the 1up trick fromSuper Mario Bros. 3. Just toss the shell in between the two pipes and relax as the 1ups stack up.
2Mega Man X Ceiling Glitch Flame Mammoth
On Flame Mammoth’s stage inMega Man X, there is a useful trick to pass the majority of the levels of hazards. When the players reach the conveyor belts with the recycled heads falling from above, there is a way to glitch X into the ceiling. X will be above the stage, able to walk across without having to fight any enemies or take any damage.
1The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past Walk On Water
There are a ton of glitches inThe Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Pastto choose from, but one of the coolest and most useful glitches is being able to trigger the ability to walk on water. One way to accomplish this is by dashing out of the cave along the slanted wall around the exit. This should put the player in a water walking state, making it easier to access areas of the game that would normally require Zora’s Flippers.
