Alan Wake 2’s climactic fight will see the game’s two protagonists fight for control of the reality controlling Clicker. Players will want to use a combination of tactics from two previous boss fights to quickly take down Alan and defeat the Dark Presence inside him.

Defeating Alan

After players complete the summoning ritual, if Alan’s story Initiation has been completed, a cutscene will play and Saga will put the final pieces of the puzzle together after Alan doesn’t appear due to the ritual. Saga will reveal to players that Alan did escape from the Dark Place, and that Mr. Scratch is not a manifestation of the Dark Presence but is Alan inhabited by the power of the Dark Presence. Alan will then appear on the beach to attack Saga, and the final fight will begin.

The fight against Alan feels like acombination of the fight againstMr. Scratch behind the Sheriff’s Stationand the Ritual Summoning fight. While players will not have to deal with hordes of Taken swarming the beach, Alan himself is fast and strong enough to test Saga and players. Similar to the fight against Mr. Scratch, players will have toset up a set of lights that will dispel the Dark Presence- this time in an attempt to remove its bond to Alan.

Players will only havetwo lights that need to be affected, and they are already on, players simply need torotate the lights to align the beams with the cagemeant to trap and destroy shadows. Alan will attempt to kill Saga using amore aggressive teleporting lungethan players saw in the fight with Scratch, in addition to alarge pulse attack that emits dark energy out in a radiusaround Alan. Players can effectively evade Alan’s lunges and melee swipes, however, the dark energy pulses are hard to dodge, often going through or around obstacles, so be sure tohave painkillers on hand and quick slottedto be able to restore health quickly if caught by one of these shockwaves.

Just as in the fight against Scratch, players will want to attempt todish out as much damage as possibleon Wake to temporarily stun him, theninteract with the lighting arrays to align themwith the cage. Players will want to hold the interact button to engage the alignment process, when Alan audibly calms down assume he has resumed his assault, release the interact button, and return to evading attacks and shooting.Progress on the alignment will remainif halted or interrupted by an attack by Alan, so do not worry about trying to complete a light fixtures alignment in a single go.

During the fight, players can attempt to use the flashlight to slow down Alan, although this tactic has minimal effect.Federal Bureau of Control Agent Estevezwill occasionally light up Alan with a spotlightthat will slow his advances on Saga, players shoulduse these moments to attackusing aimed headshots from the crossbow or hunting rifle, or get in close with afully-loaded pump-action shotgunand blast away. The moment Alan stops advancing and begins absorbing the dark energy around him, players should run to the nearest fixtureand squeeze in as much progress as possible.

If players runlow on ammo look around the cliffs below where Estevez and Casey are posted- occasionally they willdrop a supply box with ammo and healing items. Additionally, there is a shoebox in the arenathat can be accessed during the fight, find this on the far side near where Alan is standing at the start of the fight. Keep in mind thataccessing the shoebox does not affect the world around Sagaand Alan can still attack and kill her.

Maintain the pattern of damaging and stunning Alan and aligning the lights in between until both lights are in place -with both lights set players will want to stand in the cage and bring Alan into the light. Once Alan walks into the cage with Saga a cutscene will begin, the part will end, and the fight will conclude.
