Nintendo enthusiast and ROM hacker Infidelity has announced his next mod forSuper Mario Bros. 3, known only asSuper Mario Bros. 3+. The mod aims to add a variety of new moves for Mario such as wall jumping and ground pounds, additional characters to play as, and much more toSuper Mario Bros. 3.

Nintendo’s retro title originally came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988 in Japan, reaching other players elsewhere around the world a couple of years later. While it wasone of the very firstSuper Mariogames in the franchise, the title has remained a fan-favorite for retro game enthusiasts for more than three decades now, with new life constantly being breathed into the game by community-made mods such as this one. On top of that, Nintendo’sSuper Mario Makergameseven allow players to construct their own levels using the assets, graphics, and mechanics seen in the originalSuper Mario Bros. 3.

The reveal of Infidelity’sSuper Mario Bros. 3+mod came in a teaser trailer that was posted on the creator’s official Twitter account. This teaser re-used the original 1990 reveal trailer forSuper Mario Bros. 3, but edited to include a sneak peek at some of the new features that the mod will be adding. Though fans were only granted a brief glance, the trailer features gameplay from the mod which shows off Mario pulling off some of his more modern moves, such as wall jumps and ground pounds. In addition, players also get a look at some gameplay as other characters from theSuper Marioworld, including Princess Peach and Toad, who will apparently be added in as playable characters.

The creator of the mod announced that the mod will be available to download from romhacking.net during the imminent Thanksgiving holiday this year. While the trailer only provided a glimpse at the new features to be introduced with Infidelity’s seemingly ambitious mod, it appears to bring a bunch of new features to the game while also paying homage to the attractiveretro style of the originalSuper Mariotitle.

Although the extent of the mod’s impact on typical gameplay is yet to be seen, fans can at least look forward to an experience which allows them torevisit the classicSuper Mariotitleyet again. Fans of theSuper Mariofranchise have had little in the way of official games sinceSuper Mario Odysseywhich released five years ago, so fan-made content such as this does well in providing fresh new content for players to enjoy.
