In contrast to the doom and gloom of most Soulslike games,Another Crab’s Treasureis a colorful crab-themed, yet ultimately dystopian world. As the hermit crab Kril, players set out on a journey to retrieve his beloved, repossessed shell armed with a fork and various switchable trash-themed shell replacements. Players must battle against all kinds of sea monster bosses and enemies, which look anything but easy from the game footage revealed so far. Consequently, many players may be curious to know what to expect fromAnother Crab’s Treasure’s optional boss fights.
Soulslike games are known for their grueling boss fights, not all of which are usually mandatory, and many fans may enjoy seeking out optional or secret bosses for often greater challenges or rewards. For many, extremely punishingElden Ringoptional bosseslike Malenia may come to mind, whom some players have spent many hours trying to beat. In a recent interview with Game Rant, Aggro Crab’s studio head/art director Nick Kaman and creative director/narrative lead Caelan Pollock spoke Crab’s Treasure’s optional boss fights.

Boss Fights And Optional Bosses In Another Crab’s Treasure
Only a handful ofAnother Crab’s Treasure’sbossesand boss fights have been revealed so far, such as the chopstick-wielding Heikea, Intimidation Crab. There are also some unusual and, so far, unnamed bosses, such as a strange green boss with a chain and a winged, seahorse-like creature. Speaking aboutAnother Crab’s Treasure’soptionalbosses,Pollock confirmed there are “a few” in the game:
We do have a few optional bosses. I don’t know if we have anything that reaches the heights of, let’s say, Malenia, where you’re just going to be beating your face on this boss for hours. That was something we sort of avoided on principle for the most part, but maybe it depends on how good you are.

As a game that seeks to offer a challenging combat experience yet still be inviting for new players to the genre, it makes sense that Aggro Crab wanted to avoid overly challenging boss fights likeElden Ring’s Malenia. Of course, that’s not to say thatAnother Crab’s Treasure’s optional bosses won’t be difficult. It sounds like their “weird” factor could be how they distinguish themselves, as opposed to a significant increase in difficulty, depending on players' skills.
‘Weird’ Optional Bosses In Another Crab’s Treasure
Pollock also went on to explain how some ofAnother Crab’s Treasure’s optional bosses are “weird” as far asSoulslike bossesgo:
I wouldn’t say we have secret bosses that outstrip the difficulty of the mainline bosses by a significant margin. More like, some of the bosses we have made optional are just weird, but I’m not going to spoil anything.

They could be highly imaginative and nightmarish creatures, given that many of the game’s enemies are inspired by real-life,scary sea creaturesliving in the ocean, such as the Bobbit Worm. Aggro crab did emphasize ensuring that all in-game creatures are realistic, if sometimes exaggerated. In this sense, anything could be possible with the sheer scale of real sea creatures available to draw inspiration from, the impact of a trash-filled and crumbling setting, and the game’s overall humorous tone. Either way, fans of underwater games and the Soulslike genre could be in for a real treat withAnother Crab’s Treasure’s boss fights, whether main-game or optional.
