Dutch modeler Danny “Artdeck” van Eck created an impressive 3D figurine of Reddick’s Commander Zavala holding his iconic Guardian shield, with the rendition itself seemingly being inspired by the character’s appearance inDestiny 2. The overall sculpture was designed as a literal memorial to the character and comes with an engraved farewell to Reddick from the entire series fandom on the back. For context, Artdeck is a fairly prolificDestinycommunity artist who frequently creates such detailed assets inspired by Bungie’s franchise.
The schematics for 3D-printing Artdeck’sDestiny 2Commander Zavala memorial are available for free via his CGTrader page. The artist asked that anyone who is able to do so donates to his preferred charity of choice, MOMCares, a non-profit that supports black mothers in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) who identify as being under-supported or face economic hardships.
While manyDestiny 2fans are currently brainstormingideas for how Bungie could honor Lance Reddick, it remains to be seen whether the Sony-owned studio ends up writing off his character. Looking at social media reactions to the famous actor’s passing, many players appear to prefer a proper farewell to Commander Zavala over a simple recasting. Yet implementing that apparent consensus might prove tricky for Bungie, seeing how the character played a pivotal role in bothDestinygames and their respective expansions, being in charge of overseeing all operations concerning player-controlled Guardians.
One alleviating circumstance for the developers is that they at least have some time to think things through. Namely, the latest piece of DLC for the hit game,Destiny 2: Lightfall, has just released in late February, so Bungie has some room for weighing its options before the online shooter’s next—and possibly final—expansion is scheduled to release.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
