For the first time in the franchise, Activision is introducing a new mechanic called Carry Forward forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. As the name implies, this system will allow players to transfer their content from a previousModern Warfaregame into the next iteration. The blog specifically states that a player’s unlocked weapons, attachments, camos, Blueprints, Operators, Operator Skins, cosmetic bundles, emblems, and other rewards will be available to carry forward. Better yet, this includes content from the current version ofCall of Duty: Warzone2as well.

Naturally, if there is a piece of content that isn’t actually inModern Warfare 3, the unlocked cosmetic item for it will not carry forward as the blog has confirmed not allMW2vehicles and Wartracks won’t be available. In addition,Modern Warfare 3only players will not have access tobase operator characters fromModern Warfare 2, which typically had challenges that needed to be accomplished before they were made playable. Similarly, with weapons,MW3only players will get access toModern Warfare 2weapons, but they’ll have an associated unlock challenge that will first need to be completed

Moving between games has been a contentious sticking point, especially for live service style games.Call of Dutyhas dabbled with integration techniques for the highly popularWarzone, keeping it consistent even when a new game launches. The system hasn’t been perfect, as it has occasionally ruined the meta with overpowered weapons, caused certain glitches, and other unforeseen issues. However, this Content Forward policy seems like a step in the right direction, especially for fans of the traditional multiplayer experience
