Call of Dutyfans are calling for the return of campaign co-op in future iterations of the franchise. TheCall of Dutyseries offers many ways to play with friends, but in recent years the campaigns have been restricted to a single-player experience.
The campaign has been something of an afterthought in many recentCall of Dutygames. In 2018,Call of Duty: Black Ops 4didn’t feature a campaign mode, becoming the first and only game in the series to hold this distinction. Despite this, the campaigns have usually been well-received by players over the years, providing a great mix of Hollywood-style action with hard-hitting stories. The most recent entry in the series,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, did place a renewed focus on the campaign mode, bringing back many fan-favorite characters from 2009’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The Reddit post online suggested that campaign co-op would be a great addition to futureCall of Dutygames. Unfortunately, campaign co-op has been absent from the series since 2015 inCall of Duty: Black Ops 3, with its only other appearance coming in 2008’sCall of Duty: World at War. It’s definitely a niche feature, but because of its lack of appearances, developers have never really had the chance to innovate on the features and make it a fully-fledged part of theCall of Dutycampaignexperience. A great developer could certainly get more out of the feature than has been shown so far, with other franchises doing campaign co-op very well in the past.
Even in theCall of Dutygames that don’t offer campaign co-op, there is usually some form of co-op mode that allows gamers to play with friends. In Treyarch’s games, this has usually been theiconicCall of DutyZombies game mode, which has grown huge amounts since it first appeared inCall of Duty: World at War. Meanwhile, Infinity Ward has put its focus into Spec-Ops, a series of co-op missions that are separate from the campaign offerings.
It’s currently unknown if campaign co-op will ever make a return to theCall of Dutyseries, though it seems that the developers of the franchise are committed to creating high-quality campaigns for some time to come.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s campaignfeatured production values never seen before in the series, showing that they’re not just there for the sake of it. WithCall of Duty 2023rumored to be a continuation of theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2storyline, there’s a lot of potential to craft one of the strongestCall of Dutystories to date with the future title.
