Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2may receive campaign DLC sometime next year, according to the latest rumors. With the game getting a longer life cycle than most modernCODtitles have received in the past, all manner of rumors about Infinity Ward and Activision’s plans forModern Warfare 2have popped up. Though some of them are fairly unprecedented, they’re hardly unbelievable.
Specifically, one of the recent rumors about the game came from journalist Jason Schreier and suggested that theModern Warfare 2may get premium DLCin 2023. This has since been corroborated by several other sources, too, with some of them adding more information to the mix, suggesting a fairly substantial expansion pack.

Moreover, Activision decided to push back the nextCall of Dutygame from 2023 to 2024, which means that Infinity Ward’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2will remain in the limelight for way longer than it otherwise would have. Leaker TheGhostOfHope is now suggesting that the game’s 2023 DLC may include a slew of multiplayer maps as well as a campaign expansion of some sort, which is rather unprecedented for a modernCODgame.
The notion of gettingpost-launch campaign content inModern Warfare 2isn’t entirely original, granted. Some believe that this will be one of the ways in which Infinity Ward will expand the game and keep single-player fans happy without them getting a whole newCODgame in 2023. The leaks, as numerous as they are by now, are yet to be officially confirmed in any capacity, however. This means that sources could still very well be wrong about the game’s purported campaign DLC and that it’s worth keeping a pinch of salt at hand.
With the game’s release looming close, Activision recently pushed out aModern Warfare 2launch trailerwhich gives players a few valuable snippets of the game’s cast of characters and its rough narrative outline. Since this new version ofModern Warfareisn’t a simple retelling of the old classic but a new story instead, there’s certainly room for Infinity Ward to prepare campaign DLC if the rumors are true.
It’s going to be particularly interesting to see ifCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s new AIwill make things more dynamic in the game’s PvE content. Campaigns could be substantially more replayable with reactive AI, but that hasn’t usually been the purview ofCOD. Time will tell whether Infinity Ward is ready to takeCODsingle-player content to the next level, campaign DLC or not.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2releases on October 28 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
