Call of Duty: Modern Warfarehas recently entered Season 2. While additional features will be scattered across the Season, the launch came with three new maps, theCall of DutyLeague Ruleset, and a new Battle Pass with two free guns and the premium Operator “Ghost.”

Season 2 also launched alongside alarge update patch, tackling many of the game’s bugs and issues. However, it seems that the patch’s notes didn’t disclose everything that it contained, and that there may even be an entirely new game mode hidden in the files, waiting for an official release.

This revelation came after Reddit user u/ARedWerewolf experienced a glitch which deposited them into the menu for Warzone, which appears to be an as yet unplayable game mode. The menu featured options including Weapons, Operators,Battle Pass, Barracks and Training, most of which were locked.

Fortunately, the Weapons tab opened another menu, showing that the eventual players of Warzone would be able to modify their “Drop Kit.” The naming of this option immediately spurred rumors that Warzone may beCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’slong-anticipated Battle Royale mode. For months it’s been suspected thatModern Warfarewould be jumping on the Battle Royale bandwagon eventually, and this isn’t even the first glitch to support those rumors.

Back in December a group of players were able toglitch themselves onto a large mapthat seemed designed for a Battle Royale game mode. The map was largely unfinished, with many missing textures, but clearly meant to be played on a scale even larger thanModern Warfare’s new Ground War game mode.

It seems that when Warzone finally is announced, very little of it will be a surprise to fans. This was certainly true of Season 2’s launch, as a steady stream ofleaks and glitcheshad revealed a lot of its content before the official announcement. Even the trailer for the new season was leaked, revealing the return of the popular Rust map as well as Ghost. It may well be that the Warzone trailer is already on its way, as the mode itself has begun to be patched into the game, and the only question is what will come first: the official announcement, or a leaked reveal?
