Nolan saidhe believes movies likeOppenheimerandBarbiebeing released won’t hurt either. Instead, they will make more people want to go to the movies, which benefits bothOppenheimerandBarbie.

In an interview withIGN, Nolan talked about why it’s beneficiary forBarbieandOppenheimerto come out during the summer. “Summer, in a healthy marketplace, is always crowded, and we’ve been doing this a long time,” Nolan said. Even thoughOppenheimerandBarbiewill compete for box office returns, Nolan added why he thinks it’s good for both to come out now. “I think for those of us who care about movies, we’ve been really waiting to have a crowded marketplace again, and now it’s here, and that’s terrific.”
Competing with comedies during the summertime is nothing new for Nolan. It sounds like a distant memory, but during the days when he madeThe Dark Knighttrilogy,he usually had to compete with the comedies during that period. Around the same time as the release ofBatman Beginscame comedies likeWedding CrashersandThe 40-Year-Old Virgin. Pure comedies haven’t been nearly as prominent as they once were during the summer, but Nolan knows all too well when film studios release them at that time of the year.
Those comedies were surefire hits but didn’t damage the box office returns of those Nolan-led films.
