Of the many eras that represent the various time periods that aCivilization 6game goes through, the Information Era is one of the final, representing recent history and the near future. Before theGathering Stormexpansion, the Information Era was the de facto final era,but now the Future Era holds that title.

Nevertheless, the Information Era is a strong signal to the player that the game is about to end as the next stage of technologies and civics unlock. With the end of the game in sight, players who reach the Information Era should take the steps necessary to secure the victory they want. Here are the first things any player should do when they reach the Information Era.
6Build Solar Farms & Wind Farms
Power is an important part ofCivilization 6after being added in theGathering Stormexpansion. Most late-game buildings can’t function without being powered, and keeping pace with rival civilizations soon becomes entirely dependent on keeping the power grid supplied. However, Power Plants reliant on coal and oil can raise the level of pollution, while Nuclear plants have a chance of causing accidents.
Solar Farms and Wind Farms are viable alternatives to these energy sources, albeit at the cost of spacesthat could have been used for other tile improvements. Nevertheless, Solar and Wind Farms are important for players who wish to avoid pollution while still generating enough power for their civilization.

5Research Nuclear Fusion
By the Information Era, most players should already have the ability to access and utilize Uranium in a number of uses, such as in Nuclear Power Plants. However, there are still a variety of ways that nuclear power can be utilized, but the Nuclear Fusion technology needs to be researched before it is unlocked.

Once Nuclear Fusion is researched, several projects involving nuclear energy become available. The first two projects involve the creation of Thermonuclear devices, which are extremely powerful nukesthat pack a bigger punch than the nuclear weapons that civilizations will have had up to that point. Researching Nuclear Fusion also unlocks the Launch Mars Reactor project, which is a vital step in achieving a Science Victory. Players interested in fully utilizing their nuclear energy stock should not be ignoring this incredibly important technology.
4Unlock The Last Available Governments
The final government options become available by the Information Era, though players will have to research the necessary civic to unlock them. Unlocking all three governments isn’t completely necessary, but players hoping for a victory will want to unlock at least one to reap their various benefits. However, each government comes with its unique penalty, so it’s important to pick a governmentthat properly gels with the civilization’s goals.
The final governments also provide the player with more options for policy cards, with a total of 10 compared to the previous level’s 8. In addition, half of those slots are Wildcard slots, making these governments highly customizable in terms of what kinds of policies they can provide. Despite the penalty, upgrading to one of these final governments is a big benefit for any civilization.

3Use World Congress Sessions Wisely
The Diplomacy victory was an added victory requirement in theGathering Stormexpansion, allowing players to win if they can accumulate 20 Diplomatic Victory points by voting for winning resolutions in the World Congress. Winning these points can be very complicated, especially when playing against AI, so maintaining alliances and friendly relationships is important to achieving victory in this category.

Late in the game, Regular Sessions will start providing an option to either award or take away 2 Diplomatic Victory pointsfrom a particular Leader. Since this can make or break a player’s ability to attain a Diplomatic Victory, it may be wise for such players to pour their resources into winning this particular resolution either by getting the points themselves or taking them from another player who is close to attaining victory.
2Laser Focus On Space Projects
Of the many different Victory options a player has, the Science Victoryis easily the most complicated and convoluted. Achieving a Science Victory means the player needs to research a large number of technologies and fund a variety of projects. Depending on a player’s progress, the possibility of achieving a Science Victory in a timely manner could be quite difficult.
Because of how time-consuming a Science Victory can be, players aiming for that particular Victory should begin working towards it as soon as possible, with Satellites being the first technology to research once the Information Era begins. Minimizing the research time by gaining Eurekas for the technologies needed for a Science Victory, such as building Broadcast Centers for Satellites or an Aluminum Mine for Nanotechnology.

1Keep Working Towards Final Victory Requirements
Hopefully, most players that have reached the Information Era are already well on their way to achieving victory in some way or another. With the Information Era signaling the end of the game, it’s a bad sign for a civilization if victory is nowhere in sight. It might even be too late to pivot to another victory, so players should always be making sure that they have nearly accomplished what they have set out to do.
Whether it be Domination, Science, Culture, or otherwise, players should have already long decided what kind of victorythey have decided to pursue, but even if none of the other victories are viable, know that the Score Victory is always an option. Whatever the case may be, it’s always best to never give up on victory until the end.

Civilization 6is currently available on PC, macOS, Linux, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and Mobile.
