Sony has stumbled with some of its fans a little bit lately. While the giant has taken back its plans of shutting down several PlayStation stores, fans ofDays Gonedon’t seem to have their grudges resolved.
Fans of the post-apocalyptic open-world title might be waiting on news regarding a sequel, but recent reports have indicated that the pitch was denied by Sony. In other words, it’s not happening. While aDays Gone 2might not have been outright canceled from existence, there’s little chance that the game may ever see the light of day now.

A Days Gone 2 Will Probably Not Happen
2019’sDays Gonehad somewhat of a mixed critical receptionat launch. The numerous bugs and glitches aside, many players didn’t enjoy the mostly formulaic open-world that wasDays Gone. While the debate regarding whetherDays Gone"deserves" a sequel or not has been raging for quite a while, the game did have a few promising aspects which could have been improved with a potential sequel.
Reports indicateaDays Gone 2pitch was denied by Sonyon the grounds of the original game’s troubled development cycle and the mixed reviews. Sony Bend was instead tasked as a support studio for a Naughty Dog project and then asked to leave the project. Sony has now tasked the studio with creating a new IP, which will probably not arrive until quite late in the PS5 generation.
The Future of Days Gone
While Sony or Bend Studio haven’t commented themselves about this new IP, many fans are expecting think it could probably be aspiritual successor toDays Gone. This could very well be the case since the studio is already experienced with the post-apocalyptic genre.
Additionally, manydevelopers have since left the studio which includesDays Gonewriter and director, John Garvin and game director Jeff Ross. While Garvin seemingly has plans for focusing on some personal projects, Ross seems to be interested in continuing to work in the games industry. This does pose a possibility that fans might get a spiritual successor toDays Gonefrom an entirely new studio with Jeff at the creative helm, if not a similar game from Bend.
In either case, there’s a possibility thatDays Gonemight receive a spiritual sequel, either from Sony Bend itself or from a third party under the creative helm of former employees. At least, at most, this is probably the most fans can expect now given recent developments. However,a properDays Gone 2wouldn’t probably see the light of daydespite fans clamoring for the game.
Days Goneis available now on the PS4, and releases June 15, 2025, on the PC.
