Summary
A game-breaking bug has been discovered on the Backwater Swamp domain maps forDead by Daylightallowing survivors to become invincible. Players have found spots on Grim Pantry and The Pale Rose maps within the Backwater Swamp realm ofDead by Daylightin which survivors can stand and completely negate attacks from most killers.
Developed by Behaviour Interactive,Dead by Daylighthas been the pioneer of the asymmetrical online horror genre for years now, and has not shown any sign of slowing down. With new killers and maps added frequently, constant balance changes to keep the meta new and refreshing, and a myriad of high-profile IP crossovers,Dead by Daylighthas made a household name for itself. Earlier this year saw the highly anticipated crossover with Wizards of the Coast, bringingDungeons & Dragonsto the game in the form of the terrifying Lich, Vecna, and an upcoming collaboration isbringing Lara Croft into the world ofDead by Daylight. The game is not without faults, however, as spotted and shared by this one attentive streamer.

Dead by Daylightcontent creator “Cocolatte” posted a clip to Twitter, sharing a major bug they had noticed in which survivors could become invulnerable on certain tiles within the Backwater Swamp maps. On a particular structure with a row boat leaning upon a small rock, running deep into the corner between the rock and the boat will render survivors unable to be hit with a basic attack by most killers. Female survivors are always safe in this spot, but the taller male survivors have to crouch to become invulnerable. This coincides with the killers this affects most, as killers who are physically shorter, such as Chucky, Onryo, and Hag, can reportedly attack survivors in this spot like normal.Killers with ranged abilities such as The Huntressappear to also be able to circumvent this exploit.
Another popularDead by Daylightcontent creator by the name of “Hens” also chimed into the post, stating that using this bug intentionally is likely to result in a ban, and imploring players to not attempt the glitch for themselves in a public match. Many players call for the map to be killswitched until the bug is resolved, although some players are happy if it stays gone, as the Backwater Swamp maps are generally viewed less favorably than other maps. This won’t be the first time a map has been temporarily removed from the map pool, as the chapter that added theKnight toDead by Daylightsaw his map get killswitched within a week of launchbecause of issues on the map itself.
Behaviour Interactive has yet to make any official comment regarding the exploit, and fans are concerned regarding any fix for this bug, considering how long it took to get a killswitch on the recent Trickster visual bug that was causing real-life issues for those with epilepsy. Learning how to escape andloop the killer is a core part ofDead by Daylight’s identity, but this exploit allows survivors to stay safe from most killers without anything the killer can do in most situations, and in some cases could even be used to hold the game hostage until one party decides to leave the match, taking a lengthy penalty for doing so.
