Updated on June 13, 2025, by Lewis Smyth:Over the last few years, Dead by Daylight’s Onryo has received many major changes to bring her power more in-line with other Killers. As of the latest patch, her Deluge of Fear revolves around carefully building Condemned stacks by strategically teleporting and hooking Survivors. This new guide features updated builds, which incorporate the redefined aspects of her power, as well as a best add-ons list.
The Onryo: Best Non-Teachable Build (2024)
WhileThe Onryo has some impressive base-kit abilities, many players who are entering the Entity’s trails for the first time may struggle with obtaining all the perks available to other Killers. This build is aimed at those newer players, showcasing the best build for The Onryō without using other Killers’ teachable perks. Hitting Survivors with Sloppy Butcher, you’ll teleport to build Condemned in chase and pressure generators while finding Survivors with Spies from the Shadows and Scourge Hook: Floods of Rage. In the endgame, Hex: No One Escapes Death will activate and give you the opportunity to secure more hooks.
The Onryo: Best Build (2024)
Like The Trapper,The Onryō was one of the weaker Killers inDead By Daylightuntil her buffs. Now, The Onryō is most effectively played by adopting a hit-and-run playstyle in the early game, injuring multiple Survivors to pressure their health states and teleporting strategically to build up their Condemned status. These perks fromThe Plague, The Legion, and The Artist allow her to create immense amounts of early game pressure and lock in Condemned stacks on Survivors early by teleporting near them while in the radius of a powered TV. By hooking one or two Survivors, and by teleporting to the TVs they attempt to get tapes from, you’re able to quickly kill them before they even get the chance to heal.
The Onryo: Best Add-Ons
The Onryo has a somewhat mixed bag of Add-Ons, some of which provide enormous value, while others remain very niche – even post-buff. This guide separates the best from the worst, in order of rarity on the Bloodweb.
Videotape Copy
Simple and powerful, especially onsmallerDead by Daylightmaps, the Videotape Copy increases the range at which Survivors are Condemned by powered TVs during Projection by 2 meters.
Old Newspaper
Though producing a milder effect since Sadako’s buff, the Old Newspaper is still an impressive Common Add-On. This add-on increases the time that The Onryo is invisibile during Manifestation by 33%, allowing her to more easilyout-mind game Survivorsat more unsafe loops.
Cabin Sign
Helping The Onryo cover distances more effectively and spread Condemned more frequently, the Cabin Sign decreases the time it takes for a TV to turn back on after Projection by 4.5 seconds.
Yoichi’s Fishing Net
While not especially powerful in prior patches, with the new ability to lock in Condemned stacks, Yoichi’s Fishing Net can deprive hooked Survivors of vital information byafflicting them with Blindnessat 4 stacks.
Well Stone
Like the Cabin Sign, the Well Stone helps with The Onryo’s map mobility and Condemn building by decreasing the time it takes for TVs turned off by Survivors to power on by 7 seconds.
Reiko’s Watch
Pairing well with the Old Newspaper, Reiko’s Watch similarly increases invisibility duration – this time while Demanifested – by 25%.
Well Water
To better sneak up on Survivorsafter Projecting, the Well Water increases the duration of Undetectable by 2 seconds while Manifesting.
Ring Drawing
Helping spread Condemned more efficiently, the Ring Drawing spreads a stack to every other Survivor when someone carrying a tape is hooked.
Mother’s Comb
Better for beginners, Mother’s Comb shows the aura of turned-off TVs in yellow. Though you’ll generally want to prevent Survivors from getting the chance to turn them off, Mother’s Comb is a useful information Add-On which can help you track who is depositing or picking up tapes.
Bloody Fingernails
The best Rare Add-On for The Onryo, her Bloody Fingernails increase the duration of her post-Projection speed by 50%, meaning you may more easily catch up to Survivors after teleporting, which you should often make use of. This Add-On is further empowered by the Well Water.
Remote Control
Perhaps The Onryo’s best add-on, the Remote Control allows you to see the auras of Survivors within 12 meters of a powered TV for 7 seconds. As this includes any TVs you teleport to, this Add-On is invaluable for building Condemned mid-chase without losing their location.
