For the first time inside of the Season of Arrivals, Iron Banner is back forDestiny 2players. Thankfully, the mode doesn’t seem to be coasting by on what works as Bungie has once again spruced the mod up a bit with improvements and enhancements to make it a little more manageable for players. This includes things like the seasonal quest which seems to have beenbroken into mini-stepsfor each time the mode returns. There’s also a more subtle change that went unannounced that players are now just starting to figure out.
Over on theDestiny 2subReddit, players have begun to discover that finishing Iron Banner matches now have a decent chance at dropping enhanced mods. This is a slight change from seasons past where players had a chance to earn them from turning in Iron Banner tokens and earning a package from Lord Saladin. While that method is still active, simply playing Iron Banner adds in another easy way to earn these powerful mods.

Based on the findings from players, there doesn’t seem to be a consistency for how often they drop though the loot pool does include most, if not all, enhanced mods such as highly sought after ones like Enhanced Ashes to Assets and Enhanced Grenade Launcher Loader. On average, it appears that mods can be awarded anywhere from 5-7 games and the better news is that even games that are mercy ruled still count as finishing a match.
For those unaware, enhanced mods really came into prominence with thesweeping Armor 2.0 changesmade with theShadowkeepexpansion. They generally cost more to slot into gear, but the benefits are well worth it. Enhanced mods typically take what a normal mod does and increases the bonuses for it. So with the highly sought after Ashes to Assets, the Enhanced version of the mod will grant players significantly more super energy on grenade kills.
The jury seems to be out on the current state of Iron Banner, even with the positive changes. Season 11 doesn’t have a pinnacle weapon chase, though players canquickly unlock two reprised weapons: The Forward Path auto rifle and The Fool’s Remedy sidearm. With the change from Skill-based Matchmaking to Connection-based, players are finding out that matches are not always well balanced with a significant rise in matches ended early with a mercy rule or a 6 stack of clan members going up against 6 random players. Bungie has yet to address the recent fan complaints.
