An observant member of theDestiny 2community has noticed that one of the most sought-after weapon perks in-game is not working as intended, despite Bungie’s several attempts to fix the problem. AsDestiny 2gears up for an improved state of build craftingwith the upcoming Lightfall expansion, such a broken perk can become a nuisance at best and frustrating to work around at worst.
Perks are the bread and butter of any weapon inDestiny 2, as these elements amplify a player’s arsenal of destructive tools to cause even more havoc. Since the beginning of the franchise, weapon perks have been the primary driving force for many people to find the perfect god-roll weapon. Some of the direct damage-dealing perks are so powerful that these have given rise to multiple meta-defining and balance-breaking weapons, such asthe current reign of Linear Fusion Rifles inDestiny 2. The game also has a plethora of weapon perks that boost player abilities through performing a certain action or killing an enemy. Players can chain their abilities in tandem with their weapons, and very skillfully create a play style that is unique, fun, and perfectly equipped to take onDestiny 2’s incredibly difficult endgame content.

One of these ability-enhancing mods, called Wellspring, has become quite a hot topic amongDestiny 2community members. Wellspring, when it is functioning as intended, should be awarding players with ability energy each time they kill an enemy. But as Reddit user Gehab has pointed out, the perk is not at all performing as it is supposed to. In theory, Wellspring should grant ability energy to the player per enemy killed, and the amount of energy distributed to the three abilities depends on how many abilities are on cooldown. But as Gehab demonstrated in the two unlisted YouTube videos on their channel, the wellspring mod doesn’t affect the ability energy recharge rate at all.
Other players on Reddit have since then chimed in on the situation, with most of them being unaware that the perk was bugged in the first place. While a lot of players are glad that Demolitionist, a perk with similar functionality, is working just fine, most are just waiting for Bungie to address the issue at hand. And to Bungie’s credit, the studio did acknowledge the issue a few months back and promptly fixed it, but it would seem that a recent hotfix might have unintentionally broken the perk again. But realistically, asBungie approaches the release window of the new expansion forDestiny 2, players might have to wait a little longer for the fix to Wellspring.
The launch of the Lightfall expansion will bringa plethora of new legendary and exotic weapons toDestiny 2, as well as introduce new weapon perks to the sandbox. Players can only hope that the prospect of so many new builds emerging, will alleviate the loss of one perk.
Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
