An eagle-eyedElden Ringplayer recently found engravings of Malenia and Miquella within Miquella’s Haligtree.Elden Ringquickly becameone of the highest-rated releases of 2022when it launched last February, and fans are still discovering new tricks and secrets a full year later. In addition to FromSoftware’s trademark difficulty keeping players coming back for more,Elden Ringfeatures a deep lore courtesy of famedGame of Thronescreator George R.R. Martin.

This lore includes the dark and twisted tale ofElden Ring’s twin siblings Malenia, Blade of Miquella and Miquella. The former is one ofElden Ring’s most recognizable enemies, with many players gaining fame among the fanbase for defeating her in interesting ways during her optional boss encounter, such asthe now-iconic Let Me Solo Her. Meanwhile, Miquella remains unseen in the baseElden Ring, but he plays a key role in his sister’s backstory. It was Miquella who created the Haligtree as a means to bypass his curse of eternal youth and cure the Scarlet Rot that has infected Malenia since birth.

As such, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that carvings depictingElden Ring’s cursed Empyrean twins can be found within the Haligtree, and a Reddit user by the handle of RagnaBreaker recently shared screenshots of a pair of them onr/EldenRing. The first engraving depicts Malenia emerging from a Scarlet Aeonia, an incantation that creates the Scarlet Rot she suffers from. The second is of Miquella apparently being sealed within the “womb” of the Haligtree in a “sublime slumber” - as represented by one of the owls that leave Slumbering Eggs.

Other users have taken note of the apparent symbolism in the carvings RagnaBreaker found, interpreting Malenia’s carving as showing herbeing cured of her disfiguring Scarlet Rot curseas her image lacks the scars and infection found on her secondary Goddess of Rot form. Meanwhile, owls are said to represent endless sleep due to the Slumbering Eggs never hatching, making them all the more fitting for a carving of the endless sleep that befalls Miquella.

Elden Ringfans are likely about to learn even more about the tragic fates of Malenia and Miquella, asthe upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLCis reportedly focused on the siblings - and may answer some big questions that remain in the wake of the base game. In the meantime, players are free to interpret the cryptic carvings that decorate the Haligtree , which could offer yet another glimpse into the lore surrounding two ofElden Ring’s most memorable characters.

Elden Ringis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
