Elden Ring’s release date is right around the corner, meaning gamers will soon have the chance to jump into the unforgiving world of the Lands Between, teaming up with friends to brave its dangers and fight its intimidating enemies. With theElden Ringrelease date so close, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have been ramping up their marketing push for the game, ensuring that fans stay hyped by revealing new details about what to expect come launch day.
A key element ofElden Ring, like with other FromSoftware games, is its boss fights.Elden Ringplayers will have to contend with a variety of bosses during their time with the game, many of which will put up a serious fight and take significant effort on the part of the player and their co-op partners if they hope to defeat them. This will hold true forElden Ring’s main bossesthat players have to beat to get through the story, but the game will also have optional bosses that players can battle as well.

Elden Ringproducer Yasuhiro Kitao recently discussed the game’s optional bosses in an interview with Gamer Braves. According to Kitao, the game has optional bosses that are hidden inElden Ring’s open world. These enemies are meant to be significantly harder than the bosses that players have to fight to advance through the story, with Kitao describing them as “really tough challenges” that are hidden away for players to find.
This would be far from the first time that a FromSoftware game had optional bosses for players to fight, but it will be interesting to see how these encounters are introduced in the context of an open world.Elden Ring’s open world concept is making some big changes to the Soulsborne formula, and one has to imagine that will apply to the boss encounters as well. Luckily, with theElden Ringrelease dateso close, fans won’t have to wait all that much longer to find out for themselves.
Meanwhile,Elden Ring’s co-op playis also going to shake things up quite a bit. While there has been some form of co-op in the Soulsborne games since their inception,Elden Ringwill embrace co-op like never before, allowing up to four players to explore the world together. Players will be able to work together to take down the bosses, and this coordination may be what’s necessary for some to overcome the game’s optional bosses.
Elden Ringfanswill find out later this month if the optional bosses are as challenging as they’re being made out to be.
Elden Ringwill launch on February 25 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
