Althoughthe newestResident Evil 3traileris relatively short, it featured several details about the upcoming remake that are easy to miss at first glance. So without further ado, here is a detailed breakdown of the trailer and screenshots released by Capcom, from all the characters shown, possible story expansions, and an in-depth look at Nemesis.

Nemesis Jill

Expect a Combination of Terror and Action

Several weeks ago, developers at Capcom confirmed thatResident Evil 3 Remakewill be more action-orientedthan the 2019 reimagining of its predecessor. While this statement could be a cause of concern for some, fans who have played the originalResident Evil 3knows that an action-filled remake is a good thing, given that the 1999 title was also created in the same way. This is now reflected in the new trailer ofResident Evil 3 Remakethat opens with an intense battle between Jill and Nemesis.

The opening scene showed that an encounter with Nemesis will be both challenging and horrifying, given that running away from the monster doesn’t seem to be an easy thing to do. Apart from the weapons that Nemesis can use to attack players, the tyrant also has tentacles that he can use to pull Jill towards him, and thrash her around like it’s his favorite thing to do. At this point, it is still unclear whether dodge moves would make a return in the remake, but this appears to be a likely thing to be included, given players would need more than just shooting or running away to successfully survive an encounter with Nemesis.

resident evil 3 nikolai

Apart from Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveria who got the most screen time in the trailer for obvious reasons, the latest preview, andscreenshots released by Capcom, offered an in-depth look at the other members of the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (UBCS). First off is Mikhail Viktor, he was portrayed in the original game as the wounded soldier who sacrificed his life in order for Jill and Carlos to escape the relentless pursuit of Nemesis. In the trailer of the remake, Mikhail is still wounded but is seen actively planning how their group could escape the zombie-infested town. It is still unclear what will eventually happen to Mikhail in the remake, but it appears that players will be also able to interact with him before he gets severely wounded, which wasn’t an option in the original game.

The trailer also showed UBCS supervisor Nikolai Zinoviev, who is seen protesting about Jill’s presence in their group and even calling her “unreliable”. Of course, fans who have played the original game would know that Nikolai was sent by Umbrella to collect combat data and measure the performance of the monsters against trained combatants. Nikolai is also aware of the fact thatJill Valentineis one of Umbrella’s high-profile targets due to the information she carries after discovering the company’s illegal experimentation that caused the Raccoon City incident.

Another character that was seen in the latest trailer but did not have any dialog is Tyrell Patrick. Though Tyrell is not as famous as the other members of the UBCS, RE3 fans would remember him as the soldier killed by Nikolai in the Raccoon City hospital that was witnessed by Carlos. In the trailer and the screenshots released by Capcom, it appears that Tyrell will play a bigger role in the upcoming game, and he may even have an extended confrontation with Nikolai after learning his under the table dealings with Umbrella.

Nemesis Will Have Numerous Weapons and Is Seen Wearing a Mask

Unlike inthe first trailer that made a debut at Sony’s State of Play presentationback in 2019, the latest preview gave players an in-depth look on the game’s iconic villain, Nemesis, including his arsenal of weapons, yes weapons, that he’ll use in his pursuit of Jill Valentine. In the original game, Nemesis will eventually obtain a rocket launcher as his primary weapon against the former STARS officer. However, while the screenshots confirmed that the rocket launcher will make a return in the remake, the newest trailer also showed Nemesis in action with a flame thrower.

The appearance of Nemesis in the latest trailer remains consistent with the images released by Capcom last year thatdid not sit well with some players. However, towards the end of the new footage during a car crash scene, Nemesis is briefly seen wearing what appears to be a mask covering his face. It is currently unknown why the monster is wearing a mask for the remake, but it appears to be an outfit update, just like with Mr. X’s fedora hat inResident Evil 2remake. Apart from Nemesis, Hunters are also seen in the latest trailer, confirming their appearance in the upcoming game.

Possible Story Expansions

Apart fromthe removal of multiple endings, which means that players will no longer have choices that will dictate how the game ends, we still don’t know whether Capcom will include new storylines inResident Evil 3 remake. However, this scenario is likely given that the 2019 remake ofResident Evil 2introduced minor plotlines that weren’t featured in the original. Interestingly enough, the last two trailers ofResident Evil 3 remakehints at the possible expansion of the roles of some of the game’s minor characters. In the first trailer that was released last December, a scene was shown on what appears to be one of Umbrella’s secret laboratories, where Nemesis was activated. It is possible that the upcoming remake will delve into the origins of the tyrant, how he was made, and how Umbrella was able to program him to hunt down the remaining members of Raccoon City.

Another interesting plotline that is likely to be added inResident Evil 3 remakeis the story of the UBCS team. As mentioned, the trailers and screenshots released by Capcom recently showed a deeper involvement of some UBCS soldiers such as Tyrell Patrick and Murphy Seeker that players weren’t able to interact with in the original game. Maybe Capcom will let players know more about the backstories of these characters and how they ended up in the doomed town of Raccoon City.

Also, during the train scene in the latest trailer, several civilians are seen in the background, which suggests that players may be able to interact with some of the residents of Raccoon City. A screenshot ofDario Rosso, the civilian that refused to band together with Jill was released by Capcom. It is likely that just like Robert Kendo inResident Evil 2remake, Dario will also be getting an expanded role in the reimagining ofResident Evil 3.

All in all,the latest trailersand screenshots that were released by Capcom ever since the announcement ofResident Evil 3 remakebrought in tons of new information about what players can expect in the upcoming game. While there is still a lot about the remake that we don’t know about, it is only a matter of time before Capcom releases more information about the long-awaited remake ofResident Evil 3.
