Deadpool & Wolverineis one of the most anticipated films of 2024, serving as a threequel in the Ryan Reynolds-ledDeadpoolfranchise. Originally titled Deadpool 3, fan anticipation for the film was already fairly high and only soared higher when it was revealed that Hugh Jackman would be reprising his iconic role as the mutant X-Man Wolverine. While the star had walked away from the role a while prior,Jackman’s excellent Wolverine performances in theX-Menmovieshad fans eager to see him back at it in the upcoming film. The threequel, which is set to be the only Marvel film that releases in 2024, would bethe debut of both main characters and a lot of the supporting cast into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In addition to making Jackman’s Wolverine canon to the MCU,Deadpool & Wolverineis also set to give fans an even more long-awaited treat by putting the longtime fan favorite in his iconic yellow colors, a staple of his comic book looks that has never made it to live action before. However, Jackman revealed in a recent interview that it almostdidmake it onscreen in a previous project. “We almost did it inThe Wolverine,” Jackman revealed toEmpire. “But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him.’ There are different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies. It was exciting for me.”

Theyellow suit certainly will be a side of Wolverine that fans haven’t seen before, lending a unique look to what is likely to be a more lighthearted take on the character alongside Deadpool.

The interview, which centered around Jackman’s latest portrayal in the role, also featured the star commenting on how Deadpool would benefit from Wolverine’s presence by saying that “It’s great for Deadpool to have someone who will punch him in the face,” with a laugh. Jackman also speaks on whyhe made the decision to returnso long after he had walked away from the role following a stellar sendoff and even gone on the record to revealthe damage done to him by his time as Wolverine.

Comic book suits have always been a bit of a contentious issue for longtime fans, as the changes undertaken by those adapting the source material never seem to leave the suits alone, no matter how iconic. Even the upcoming film still takes some liberties with the suit’s adaptation, thoughJackman did potentially leak a comic-accurateDeadpool 3versionin a social media post that caught the attention of eagle-eyed fans. While there’s obviously a case to be made for not having a 1:1 adaptation of some of the sillier-looking outfits that comic book characters tend to sport, the reaction to the Wolverine suit’s colors should serve as all the proof anyone needs thatfans want outfits at least somewhat reminiscent of the comics, as opposed to the more “practical” suits Jackman sported in the X-Men movies.

Costumes aside, fans are certainly going to be in for a ride with all the heroes andvillains confirmed to appear inDeadpool & Wolverine. It’ll also be interesting to seehow the movie does with no other Marvel projects to take attention away from itand the specter of fan fatigue still firmly in view.

Deadpool & Wolverineis currently set for theatrical release on July 15, 2025.
