Helldivers 2is honoring fallen players during the battle for Malevelon Creek by issuing free capes to all players and marking April 3 as a special in-game holiday. After launching in February,Helldivers 2has become a massive success for both Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios, knocking over many sales milestones and achieving player population numbers despite numerous issues through the first few weeks of the game’s release. While the game offers plenty of emergent and dynamic moments through gameplay, part of the appeal is the constant flow of content and activities, which keeps the game feeling fresh.
In fact, Major Orders are issued numerous times per week, typically challenging the player base to defend or liberate certain planets of zones on the map from enemy forces. While the community typically bands together to try and earn rewards for completing the mission, theseMajor Orders create a dynamic push and pull withinHelldivers 2’s universe, constantly altering the map’s layout and available planets. However, not all Major Orders have been a big success for players, with certain planets inHelldivers 2becoming infamous within the community including Malevelon Creek, a location that most have called “Robot Vietnam” for its dense jungles and heavy firefights against the Automaton faction.
Considering the intensefighting that has taken place at Malevelon Creek since the launch ofHelldivers 2and the amount of players that have already fallen there, Arrowhead Game Studios, under the guise of the President of Super Earth, issued an announcement for all fans. Going forward,Helldivers 2is recognizing April 3 as Malevelon Creek Memorial Day to commemorate all of the Helldivers that have perished on the planet.
Helldivers 2 Free Content Being Issued to All Players
As part of the announcement, allHelldivers 2players are being gifted free content through a new cape called the Fallen Hero’s Vengeance. The cape itself features all standard level stats, with Armor Rating, Speed, and Stamina Regen all set to 100, while unfortunately not featuring any sort of passive armor ability like otherHelldivers 2armor sets. The cape itself features a black upper half, white at the bottom, with red accents and a big skull in the middle. The item has started to roll out on April 3 and should arrive throughout the day for all players.
Malevelon Creek is a planet that has consistently been at the forefront of the Automaton struggle, though recently, many have viewed those fighting there as having been a major detriment to being able to finish a Major Order that came down. In an effort to liberate a planet known as Tibit, the community seemingly divided on how best to access the planet, causing a split between Malevelon Creek and a neighboring planet called Ubanea. The divide resulted in the order being failed, and causedHelldivers 2players to push for visible supply linesto be added, better showcasing which planets should be focused on to gain access to certain planets faster.
