One of the most beloved aspects of theBorderlandsfranchise is the wide variety of storylines to follow. Whether it be the stories behind the enigmatic vaults or the history of the Crimson Raiders and their exploits, it is hard to find one that fails to deliver. However, one story that has been left unexplored but could be inBorderlands 4is that of the Watcher’s War.
As of this moment, the upcoming war foretold by the Watcher has yet to be showcased. Hints of this war were very sparse inBorderlands 3, with only the Seer really making any mention of it. However,Borderlands 4could finally make good on this promise and deliver it to players through its main storyline.

Finally Introducing The Watcher War in Borderlands 4
There was indeed a war inBorderlands 3. Many fans believed this may have been the war the Watcher may have been referring to, but this would be disproved byBorderlands 3’s Seer. According to the Seer, there is still a massive conflict on the horizon due to the actions of the Sirens, who have seemingly negatively impacted the timeline of the universe. This also proves that Gearbox Software has not abandoned the idea of the Watcher’s War as many believed, making it very likely that it could appear in a future installment. This could very likely beBorderlands 4.
In that regard,Borderlands 3may have helped to set the stage for The Watcher’s War. By the end ofBorderlands 3, fans can see that the Crimson Raiders are now going through a period of revitalization, as Ava is now the leader of the Crimson Raiders and the Children of the Vault are essentially done for.Borderlands 4could continue this through a time skip, showcasing a more experienced version of Ava who has honed her leadership skills, and is now leading the charge against thethreat of the Watcher’s War. This would be similar to howBorderlands 2andBorderlands 3began, with new leader figures and new conflicts to boot.
Borderlands 4wouldn’t have to waste any time either, asBorderlandsplayers are more than used to getting thrown right into the middle of huge conflicts.Borderlands 2started with players narrowly surviving a trap by Handsome Jack, andBorderlands 3did not hesitate to get players involved with the war against the Children of the Vault. Getting players right into the fray with the Watcher War, or what triggers it, would be in character for theBorderlandsfranchise.Borderlands 4could even start off with aboss fight against the Watcheras he initiates his plan to instigate a war.
Most importantly,Borderlands 4bringing this storyline to a close could also allow for a new beginning. Considering the fact that Borderlands 3 confirms that the Watcher War has yet to happen, this essentially means Gearbox Software is somewhat limited in its future main storylines. Whatever it does will have to lead into the Watcher’s War, eventually. By finally bringing this storyline to a close, it could bring new conflicts to light that allow for more creative freedom. For example,Borderlands 3hinted at a seventh siren, which could be an entire game’s main conflict all on its own. Getting the Watcher’s War out of the way may be better to do sooner than later.
Regardless ofwhenBorderlands 4releases, it is certain to be an epic experience that may likely dwarf anythingBorderlandsplayers have ever seen. But until then, players will just have to wait before they get any idea of a release date forBorderlands 4.
