Meanwhile, discourse on Twitter has caused Kojima’s name to trend once again with a wide range of reactions from fans all over the globe. Many fans are curious about how exactly the movie adaption ofMetal Gear Solidwill capture the magic of the game series, which is known for its unique mixture of serious themes and odd sense of humor. Videogames are a very specific medium, relying on player interaction and player dictated pace, which can work in favor of character development and key moments, while movies are often hyper-focused due to shorter run times.

While the news is welcome given the length of time the movie has been in pre-production, many fans still wonder if the movie is even necessary given the heavy emphasis on cutscenes theMetal Gear Solidgames are known for. WhileMGS5was certainly a change in directionfor the series, putting a heavy emphasis on gameplay over story, the prior games in the series have hours of cutscenes that are full of exposition and character arcs.

News on both theMetal Gear Solidmovie and game series has been quiet until recently, on top of today’s casting announcement rumors have spread over the past few months of apossible remake of the originalMetal Gear Solidbeing funded by Sony for the PlayStation 5. While nothing has been officially announced, it’s worth noting that several rumors come from sources within the game industry that have leaked details about games in the past.

While Kojima is no longer at Konami, theMGSmovie belongs to, and is being produced by, Columbia Pictures. Kojima himself is friends withMetal Gear SolidDirector Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who recently celebrated the 33rd anniversary of the game, while Kojima may not be involved in the movie in an official capacity his input may be integral to the authenticity of the movie. This may be in a similar manner to George Lucas and his input on several Disney Star Wars projects.

Currently, theMetal Gear Solidmovie is yet to start production, but the casting news is the biggest step forward to the movie actually coming into fruition since it’s announcement back in 2006. With fans waiting nearly 14 years, it may not be long until Snake is on the big screen.
