The remake made an appearance at the June 9 Xbox Games Showcase, which saw it receive a new trailer. Aside from presenting some fresh gameplay footage, the 96-second video also revealed theAge of Mythology: Retoldrelease date, September 4. As previously announced, the remake will be aday-one Xbox Game Pass release.

World’s Edge initially intended to launch the PC version ahead of its console counterpart, which is similar to how it handled its other recent titles. But that plan changed come February 2024, when the studio announced thatAge of Mythology: Retoldwill also be a day-one Xbox Series X/S release. Its multi-platform launch will be a first for World’s Edge, whose previous strategy games likeAge of Empires 4andAge of Empires 2: Definitive Editiontook years to reach Xbox consoles.

Following this announcement, Xbox Game Pass now has two confirmed titles for September 2024. The other one isSTALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, which is scheduled to reach Microsoft’s subscription service just a day afterAge of Mythology: Retolddoes. Other previously confirmedsummer 2024 additions to Xbox Game Pass includeSteamWorld Heist 2andDungeons of Hinterberg, which are set to have day-one launches on August 8 and July 18, respectively.

As for the changes that fans can expect fromAge of Mythology: Retold, World’s Edge previously revealed that it intends to increase the original game’s population limit and rework Myth unit abilities so that they can be cast manually instead of being activated automatically. A more informative information panel has also been promised by the developers, together with a text filter option for the Scenario Editor that aims to streamline the process of searching for objects. The upcoming remake has been envisioned as a reimagining of the original RTS, meaning it won’t feature the Chinese civilization that was introduced as part of the 2015 Tale of the Dragon expansion forAge of Mythology: Extended Edition.
