Halofans have been waiting years for this moment. Their patience has finally paid off, withHalo Infinite’s single-player campaign launching on Wednesday. Reviews ofHalo Infinite’s campaign have been positive, following up on the glowing reception thatHalo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer half received. Fittingly, it appears Xbox is already looking toward the future ofHalo. A newly discovered trademark reveals the existence of something namedHalo: The Endless.

Halo: The Endlesswas officially filed as a trademark on December 3 and is associated with all of the typical video game-adjacent trademark classifications. That is, it’s filed as related to video game software, downloadable game software, digital media tied to digital video discs, and other associated filing subjects. That, at the very least, seems to imply thatHalo: The Endlessis tied to video games and notcross-media efforts, movies, or the like.

One other notable aspect of the trademark is its association with esports. The second half of the trademark’s Goods and Services portion of its Statements lists subjects including conducting game tournaments, conducting online contests, and other labels tied to broadcasting and video reproduction for esports events. In other words, at face value, the trademark appears to be associated withHalomultiplayer, rather than its single-player content. The trademark may simply be covering its bases, however, so it’s difficult to make an assumption.

It’s difficult to guess whatHalo: The Endlesscould be related to becauseHalois involved in so many cross-media partnerships and creative efforts. There are books, movies, toys, and more being released tied to theHalofranchiseyearly. While the trademark does appear to be video game-related, it notably doesn’t include theHalo Infinitename. It’s possible that means it’s unrelated to the recently-released game, and could be something entirely different.

If one had to guess, what makes the most sense is thatHalo: The Endlessis anexpansion or event forHalo Infinite.Halo: The Endlesscould be the first post-launch expansion or chapter forHalo Infinite, featuring content for both single-player and multiplayer. That is, to repeat, a guess.

To find out more, allHalo Infiniteplayers can do is wait. PerhapsHalo: The Endlesswill be related toThe Game Awards 2021’sHalotelevision show reveal, perhaps it’s an upcoming holiday event, or perhapsHalofans will be waiting months if not years to hear more about the mysterious trademark.

Halo Infiniteis available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
