Fans have seen some pretty remarkable builds from theMinecraftcommunity, with giant Oreo cookies and fully functioning calculators recently taking the internet by storm. However, unlessSesame Street’svery own Cookie Monster is added in a future update, enormous sweet cakes will not do much to wade off attacking mobs or rivals. Fortunately, this is where secret doors come in, as gamers can build them to serve as a hidden entrance to a base when playing on aMinecraftPvP server where survival is crucial.

Before the secret hidden door can be built, a few necessary steps must be fulfilled first. Namely,Minecraftplayers should be in the Overworldto complete this design, as it cannot exist in the nether. Not only that, if the latest version ofMinecraftis not installed, players should do so when possible. For the uninitiated, updates are done automatically on consoles, although the option is allocated under “downloads and updates” on theMinecraftlauncher for PC gamers. With that said, any version aboveMinecraft’s1.16. Nether updateshould also work.

What Materials Are Needed to Build A Hidden Door in Minecraft

Creating Redstone contraptions inMinecraftcan get a little more complicated than most of the game’s other tasks, as Redstone dust serves as a mineral that can transmit power when placed as a block. Luckily, building a hidden door is rather simple and requires only seven types of materials and 19 pieces of Redstone dust.

The design is mostly carried by its use of an Observer, although the downside with this block is that they rely on players having a ton of bonemeal on hand. If this does become a problem in survival mode, any Soul Sand valley inMinecraft’sNetherworldwill provide bountiful amounts of bone blocks, which can be harvested.

How To Build A Hidden Door in Minecraft

With the materials in the inventory, all that’s needed now is a large obscure location to build the entrance to the secret base, such as one ofMinecraft’scave walls or cliff-sides. Once an area has been found, equip a pickaxe and carve out an upside-down “L” into the wall.

After players hollow out the shape, cover the bending insert of the “L” with a wall of Sticky Pistons, stacked on top of each other to form a large two-dimensional square (which can be seen on the left side of the image below). Now, replicate the right image and place stack two more pistons in front of the left side of the build. However, these should face to the right side of the previous four pistons rather than away.

With theMinecraftbuildalmost over, dig out a 4x4 space above the Pistons. Now, build a similar-looking “L” shape and line the surface with three pieces of Redstone dust, with a Redstone repeater in the middle. This block works as a circuit of sorts that will to “repeat” Redstone signals to “lock” in a single state.

Outside, place a Redstone torch near the entrance which will operate as a key to opening the hidden door. Back inside thelargeMinecraftbase, dig out a room towards the Redstone torch and place a Sticky Piston on the block, countering the torch. This will activate the Piston, launching its plate forwards. Now, stick an observer onto the plate, followed by a Redstone block.

Finally, as depicted in theMinecraftscreenshots above, players must now build a stairway towards the original Sticky Piston wall. These small steps will carry the Redstone dust and connect the two builds.

With the secret hidden door built, players who wish to access the base will need to place a Redstone torch in the previously set location. Doing so will cause the seemingly normal cave wall to open up, making this easily one ofMinecraft’smost hidden base builds.
