Summary
AMinecraftplayer has highlighted their unique racing game mod inspired byMario Kart. Since the release ofMinecraft, its modding community has only grown, and this latest contribution is a step towardsMario Kart-like gameplay in the Mojang game.
Mojang has made several modes forMinecraft, including Creative and Survival, but mods allow for more types of gameplay. Some popularMinecraftmods that changed things up over the years include Hunger Games, Compact Claustrophobia, and Roguelike Dungeons and Adventure. These are among theMinecraftmodsthat allow players to ignore Survival and Creative modes in favor of community-created content. While roguelike and battle royale ideas have been done inMinecraftin the past, a new mod looks to introduce kart racing.

Reddit user Iztroth recently shared a clip of their Project Mario KartMinecraftmod that’s a work in progress.Minecraftvillagersline up inMario Kartformation on either side of the player as the clock ticks down from three. The player is kept in place as they try to run for a head start, reflecting the time frame inMario Kartwhere players can earn a boost as the race begins. Iztroth lets another player get a head start as the race begins, earning items by running into transparent blocks like theMario Kartitem boxes. Corners are emphasized by red and white blocks and racers drop coins when hit by shells like inMario Kart.
Iztroth’sMinecraftracing game was created using only command blocks to unlock items and achieveMario Kartsounds. These include the item blocks' slot machine-like jingle and noises that indicate the use ofMario Kartitemslike Fire Flowers, Mushrooms, and Super Stars. Stairs are randomly placed through the racecourse that allowMinecraftplayers to jump for a slight speed boost as they might inMario Kart. Lava pits are even more sparse in Iztroth’s version ofMario Kart, but players will be held back rather than boosted upon running into them. Like a standardMario Kartcourse, Iztroth’sMinecraftracing has three laps and CPUs that perform at the same level as the player.
Like inMario Kart, if aMinecraftplayer falls behind in Iztroth’s racing game, some items may help them return to first place. Because it’s a work in progress, it’s currently unclear whentheMinecraftcommunitywill be able to play Iztroth’s kart racer. Similar to mods like Hunger Games, the fresh gameplay may draw in some lapsed players.
