Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimateis bringing plenty of changes and additions, but one of the biggest is an alteration to Ranked Mode. WhenMortal Kombat 11 Ultimatearrives, NetherRealm will open up the option to use custom variations in online matches, a feature that could completely change the feel of online play.

A major selling point back whenMortal Kombat 11first released, custom variations allow players to select certain abilities for each each character, adjusting their attacks and special moves. The feature was banned from ranked play, however, as it was originally feared that the variations would be unbalanced and far too diverse to be fair. However, therelease ofMortal Kombat 11: Ultimateshows that NetherRealm is ready to take the risk.

NetherRealm announced the change via a tweet that featuresMortal Kombat 11 Ultimate’s Mileena, with the caption “let the mind games begin.” While a few fan comments are on the negative side and share the worry that the addition will makeMortal Kombat 11feel broken and unbalanced, the vast majority of replies are on the positive side. Most fans seem excited to see wildly different versions of characters in each fight, and the change should breathe new life into Kombat League as well.

Custom Variations have allowedMortal Kombatfans to play the single-player version of the game the way they want to, and the multiplayer portion will soon be the same. With players being able to equip their fighters with a combination of different abilities to suit their unique fighting style, one fan’s version ofthe DLC fighter Ramboshould look wildly different from someone else’s version.

This change accompaniesMortal Kombat 11 Ultimate’s cross-generation play, a welcome addition that allows players on both current and next-gen consoles to play with one another. Together, the changes could reinvigorate the online community ofMortal Kombat 11, allowing players to make more use of the new characters that come with the game’s latest version. Further, professional tournaments should become a blast to watch as well, with new strategies and styles emerging due to custom mutations.

Players grabbingMortal Kombat 11 Ultimatecan expect to see plenty of Mileena when they jump into online play, as the character’sMortal Kombatreturn was demanded by fansfor over a year. With custom variations able to be selected in online modes soon, however, the many players filling the character’s shoes should feel different to fight against.
