Sony is known for its high-quality exclusives and despite getting what look to be incredible new entries in both theGod of WarandHorizonseries this year, fans are still clamoring for one series to make a comeback. Despite wrapping up theUnchartedsaga back in 2016 withUncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Naughty Dog seems intent on making a comeback to Nathan Drake’s world. Even if the world ofUncharteddoesn’t include Nathan Drake himself anymore, there are plenty of adventures still to be had with his friends or even new characters.
Unchartedcreative director Shaun Escayg hinted in a recent interview with GamesRadar that it’s a “world we want to see more of.” Elaborating on that, Escayg says that he thinksNaughty Dog should never write off returning to the world ofUnchartedas it is a franchise that the studio absolutely adores, and that the recent director ofUncharted: The Lost Legacy, Kurt Margenau, loves as well.

While Escayg’s words arefar from any confirmation of an incomingUnchartedtitle, they do appear to offer fans a glimmer of hope that the series will indeed continue in some form. What form that may take is anyone’s guess as around the release ofUncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Naughty Dog did say it would want to continue making adventures in theUncharteduniverse at some point but that they most likely would not include Nathan Drake in any form. Of course Naughty Dog then releasedUncharted: The Lost Legacya year later starring Chloe and Nadine, but that game served as more of a pseudo-epilogue toUncharted 4and was a shorter adventure.
Since then, rumors of a newUnchartedgame have been circulatingfor what seem like years as recent reports indicate that Sony Bend, the creators ofDays Gone, had been working on some newUnchartedproject at one point. Considering Bend Studio developed the woefully underappreciatedUncharted: Golden Abyssfor the PlayStation Vita, it would make sense that the studio would be tapped for further adventures in theUncharteduniverse. Currently, it is unclear if thisUnchartedtitle is still in development or has been scrapped.
With the upcoming release of theUncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collectionthat combines both remastered versions ofUncharted 4: A Thief’s EndandUncharted: The Lost Legacy, and the upcomingUnchartedfilm, there is no better time to announce a brand-new title in the universe; gamers seem to be primed and ready for a new story. Perhaps fans get an old, grizzled Nathan Drake similar toGod of War’s Kratos? Only time will tell.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collectionreleases Jun 15, 2025 for PS5 with a PC version also in development.
