TikTok user dig_dug7, aCall of Duty Zombiescontent creator, recently shared a short video that paid homage to the beloved mode. The POV-style edit uses the television in the distinct main menu ofCall of Duty: Black Ops, one of thehighest ratedCall of Duty games, to show an almost-Marvel-intro-style montage that features maps, characters, and images from the Zombies mode. In the video’s caption, dig_dug7 said they were happy to experience Treyarch’s Zombies experiences in their prime.
Aside fromCall of Duty: World at War, Treyarch also developed the Zombies modes for all five games part of theCall of Duty: Black Opsseries. The studio was involved in the development of the open world version of the popular mode in the franchise’s latest entry, as well, butTreyarch has since stopped working on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies. Sledgehammer Games has since taken over the development of the newest game’s remaining Zombies content.
The Future of Call of Duty Zombies
Treyarch reportedly revealed during a creator call that it shifted its focus to something exciting that was over the horizon. The studio could have diverted its attention to the nextCall of Dutytitle, which Microsoft Gaming CEO and Xbox brand head Phil Spencer said would be released sometime in October 2024. Rumors suggested that2024’sCall of Dutywill have a round-based Zombies mode, be the sixth entry in theCall of Duty: Black Opsseries, and have a campaign set in the Gulf War.
Call of Duty2024 could address a criticism of recent Zombies experiences, namely the lack of consistency in terms of seasonal content. ManyCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3players have voiced their frustration over the lack ofCall of Duty Zombiescontent in the game following its launch last November. This sentiment could change, however, asCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s Season 4 update, which drops on May 29, will introduce a host of new content for the title’s Zombies mode.
