The RoboCop andTerminatormatchup isn’t entirely new. It goes all the way back to 1992, at the height of both franchise’s popularity. Comic book publisher Dark Horse put out a 4-issue crossover series namedRoboCop Versus The Terminator, written by comic book legend Frank Miller and drawn by the iconic Walt Simonson. It’s an action-packed story that’s perfect for the 90s era.
TheRoboCop Versus The Terminatorcomic was hot enough at the time to lead to its own video game, published by Virgin Interactive. The 2D run and gun was released in 1993 for the Super Nintendo, Sega Master System, and Game Gear. Unfortunately, theRoboCop Versus The Terminatorgamewas very poorly reviewed.Mortal Kombat 11will hope to rewrite the rivalry’s video game history.
As the trailers show, both the Terminator andRoboCophave been lovingly recreated forMortal Kombat 11. Their kits are full of actions and abilities that are throwback references to their respectful films. Though Terminator being more of aGenisysorDark Fatereference instead of aTerminator 2reference is likely to be met with disappointment. That was probably the only way to get the license, though.
