Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetmay not have had the best reception upon launch, but Gen 9 was arguably the most ground-breaking entry in the series so far, drastically changing many aspects of it and introducing new features and compelling new Pokemon as well. From a focus on difficult double battles in The Indigo Disk to the many traditions broken byPokemon Scarlet and Violet, players got a fair share of surprises while tackling Gen 9’s content, including a more accessible approach to VGC competitive tournaments. All this alone leaves a high bar for Gen 10 to clear, but more importantly, it means thatPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk cut contentmay find its way into the next installment of the series.

The Indigo Disk making all starter Pokemon catchablewas one of the most highly-anticipated features of the DLC, considering that shiny hunting is made much easier and rewarding inPokemon Scarlet and Violetthan ever before - even withoutPokemon Legends: Arceus' shiny sound. However, leaks that led to the DLC’s release mentioned one game-changing feature that was nowhere to be found when The Indigo Disk dropped, and it was later confirmed as scrapped by the source. This is sad for Gen 9 players, but it may be a blessing in disguise for Gen 10.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Canned 0 IVs Feature Will Likely be in Gen 10 Games

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Indigo Disk’s Cut Content Explained

A renownedPokemoninsider by the name of Riddler Khu took to social media to provide fans with multiple hints aboutPokemon Scarlet and Violetfirst, and their DLCs later, almost always being right on the money. Among the various hints provided by Khu regarding the second expansion for Gen 9 was that it would receive some sort of PKHex-adjacent feature, which was later revealed to be a way to reduce a given Pokemon’s IVs to 0. This has been a long-requested addition to make competitive team-building easier, but it was apparently canned ahead of The Indigo Disk’s launch.

Why Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Rumored 0 IVs Feature is Likely to be In Gen 10

This doesn’t mean that the feature will never see the light of day, though. On the contrary, it’s very possible that whilePokemon Scarlet and Violetwon’t get it, unless more expansions are planned for it, Gen 10 might very well be the lucky one here. It’s not uncommon forscrappedPokemonfeaturesand cut content to eventually find their way into subsequent releases, with third-version titles often including multiple quality-of-life adjustments compared to the base games. For example, one of the main critiques towardPokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearlwas that they completely forewent the manyPokemon Platinumupgrades.

However, since fans have long been requesting a feature that allows them to reduce a Pokemon’s IVs as opposed to something likePokemon’s Hyper Training, it does seem most likely that if such an addition was indeed canned in the developmental process then it would show up in Gen 10. If not inPokemonGen 10 games, there’s a chance that therumoredPokemonJohto and Unova gamessupposedly coming out next could have it, making it much easier for players to build competitive teams.

Why Having 0 IVs in Pokemon is Beneficial

Having0 IVs inPokemongamescan be quite beneficial for a few reasons, such as Special Attackers being hit by Foul Play and some critters relying on low-Speed Trick Room strategies. Foul Play uses the target’s Attack stat to deal damage, so it’s best to have Special Attackers with 0 Attack IVs for this specific scenario. Likewise, a Pokemon’s Speed determines when it moves in its priority brackets, but under Trick Room, slow Pokemon go first - and thus having 0 Speed IVs is optimal. The fact thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetwere supposed to have this feature and then it was cut is quite sad, but players should rest assured that it’s most likely coming with the next game or two.
