The screenshots above do show a level of vivid color that fans have grown accustomed to inPaper Mariogames. From the green hillsides to the battle arena, the game’s screenshots show the level of diversity that has been seen ever sincePaper Marioon Nintendo 64.

Paper Mario: The Origami Kingis set to be Nintendo’s biggest title of the Summer, as stated previously. AlthoughXenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Editionwill be leading the pack in terms of Nintendo Switch console through May and on, the announcement ofPaper Mario: The Origami Kingsuggests that this game will be the Switch’s biggest hitter come July.
The game does have much promise, though. As indicated before,Paper Mariofans have shown little care for installments that came afterSuper Paper Mario. For instance, the Wii U’sPaper Mario: Color Splashwasn’t a hit among longtimePaper Mariofans. However, it is rumored thatPaper Mario: The Origami Kingwill play verysimilar to thePaper Mariogames on Nintendo 64 and GameCube. This implies that the RPG mechanics that appealed to so many in the first place will make a return this Summer.

Of course, the gimmick that has some fans worried involves the origami itself. While fans are more hopeful regarding thering-based battle system, origami’s use for solving puzzles could be seen as more of a gameplay quirk or gimmick. That said, Nintendo seems to continually want to spice up itsPaper Marioinstallments. As such,Paper Mario: The Origami Kingcould theoretically adhere to the original games' beloved RPG combat mechanics while adding new features for puzzle-solving and traversing the landscape.
Paper Mario: The Origami Kingwill release on Nintendo Switch July 15, 2025.
