As if gamers' childhood dreams came true overnight, one dedicated fan put in the effort to create amazing augmented reality Pokemon trading cards.
ThePokemon Trading Card Game, or Pokemon TCG for short, was first created in Japan in October of 1996 by a company called Media Factory and wasn’t published in the United States until June of 2003. The game quicklytook the world by storm, and by 2016 became that year’s top-selling strategic card game, now with 28.8 billion cards circulating worldwide as of September 2019.

Players create decks consisting of cards such as Pokemon and energy cards to fight one another and to draw prize cards, the first one to get all six of their prize cards wins the game (unless the opponent runs out of Pokemon first). The card game is respected for its artistic card designs andeasy to understand mechanicsaimed towards the younger generation.
Four days ago, a Reddit user by the name of yahyayyasha used a variety of software to create a 3D design for the cards tobring life to card battles. When held up to the camera, a bright neon light outlines the art of the cards and brings to life an incredible animated hologram.
Thecards displayed in the videowere the Secret Wonder’s Bulbasaur, EX Crystal Guardians Squirtle, and Hidden Fates Shiny Charmander. Yahyayyasha comments in the post that they “made this using Blender for the 3D assets, Unity & Vuforia for the AR & app.” Yahyayyasha goes into more detail in another comment explaining the process.
It’s truly something special when fans of the trading card game can take what they love and creatively adapt to it while still paying respect to the original. Gettingfree pokemon cards during the Detective Pikachu movielast year was another recent example that brought that feeling of nostalgia. Many fans of the game felt the same and praised yahyayyasha’s efforts, some even relating to how this can also be used for the beloved YuGiOh trading card game as well. That sounds like a completely viable way to get back into something that brought so many great childhood memories.
