Summary

A talentedPokemonfan hand-carved and painted several of the lovable pocket monsters from the series' first generation. With each newPokemongame released, fans of the series are being introduced to even more of the fictional creatures to the point where there are now over 1000 of them. Despite this, however, Generation I still holds a special place in the hearts of most fans.

The first generation ofPokemonrefers exclusively to the earlier games, such as Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Stadium, that were released back in the 90s and the early 2000s. In those days, there were only 151 Pokemon available to catch in the games throughout the Kanto Region. But before players ventured out on their journey, they were first tasked with the choice of picking either Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur as their starter, with Pikachu being the only choice eventually inYellow. As a result, these Pokemon in the first generation have been the subject of many projects, such as aHalloween-themed Bulbasaur plushthat one fan made.

Another user going by the handle samheck on Reddit posted photos of several different Gen 1Pokemonthat they hand-carved out of wood and painted. The first of these carvings was the Grass and Poison-type Vileplume, followed by Staryu and Stormie, the Water-types who were also made popular because they were known to be two ofMisty’s main partners in thePokemonTV series. The other carvings included the Ground-type Sandshrew and its evolution, Sandslash, posing on a piece of wood, and the Bug and Poison-type Beedril on a base with grass painted on it.

Two pieces that stood out were the Water-type Blastoise and the Flying and Fire-type Charizard because they were carved using their elemental attacks. The Blastoise figure was gearing up to use the water move hydro pump, with samheck painting the attack with blue paint, making it translucent and standing out from the Pokemon’s usual color. As for Charizard, the figure is mid-attack using a Fire-type move that features a similar technique where the attack is translucent and almost glass-like with tones of yellow and red.

Other Pokemon that samheck carved included Wartortle and Charmeleon, the second evolutionary stages of Blastoise and Charizard, with Wartotle wearing the iconic sunglasses from the television show. The post was well-received on Reddit, with other users complimenting the carvings and stating their favorites. The figurines were not samheck’s first, as theycreated a pair of Eevee carvingsusing several different types of wood and documented their process on Reddit.

Pokemonfans have often showcased their immense talent in creating various projects dedicated to their favorites. With the Indigo Disk, the nextPokemon Scarlet & VioletDLC, less than a month away, fans willundoubtedly be introduced to new Pokemonor possibly reunited with familiar faces.
