A new generation is being unleashed inPokemon GOto help celebratethe start of the Season of Celebrationand that means that for the first time players will be filling in some entries from the Kalos Pokedex. Although it’s incredibly exciting to have some new Pokemon spawning around the world and showing up as Battle Raid bosses, this also means that players have a familiar problem to deal with once again- Pokemon storage limitations.
One of the recurring microtransactions that many dedicatedPokemon GOplayers have trouble avoiding is increasing their Pokemon storage. Trainers are able to increase the size of their storage, allowing them to hang on to more and more Pokemon by exchangingPokecoins that can be earned through in-game activities or with real world dollars. There is a max limit though, which means even if players are willing to slap down some cash to expand their storage as much as possible they are still going to hit a limit and have to start making tough decisions about how many party hat Pikachu or Squirtle Squad Squirtles they really need. Luckily, the max storage limit is increasing once again.

Historically, it has proven true that max storage usually increases just about every time a new wave of Pokemon are introduced to the mobile AR game. With the Season of Celebration kicking offthe start of the Kalos era inPoGO, it’s no surprise that there’s another storage increase arriving. This update allows players who have enough Pokecoins to increase their max Pokemon storage all the way up to 4,000. That may sound like a lot, but with event Pokemon, Shiny Pokemon, multiple forms, and other special spawns; it won’t take more than a few hours before some players are already at max capacity again and deciding what needs to be transferred to the professor.
Pokemon storage has been a bit of a touchy subject inPoGOsince the app launched. There have definitely been improvements over the years thanks to storage increases, trading, and other features; but it is still very easy for players to hit the max capacity and feel like they have to transfer away Pokemon they would prefer to keep just in order to be able to catch something new. The game definitely encourages a “collect ‘em all” mentality and the inclusion of shiny Pokemon and other special variants push trainers towards keep multiple copies of many Pokemon. That’s not even to mention the triple dex, 100% dex, andshiny dex challengesthat some trainers set out on for themselves. 4,000 is a fairly high limit, so it will likely be enough wiggle room for the average player to stay happy throughout the early days of this Kalos era, but don’t expect to stop hearing requests for another increase almost immediately from the collectors in the community.
As trainers continue working through these amazing events and enjoying the early days of the GO Beyond update, they may want to keep hunting downthe best Unova Pokemon in the gameif improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal.
