The originalResident Evil 4featured a revolutionary combat system for its time. While it didn’t invent the over-the-shoulder camera for third-person shooters, it perfected it, inspiring countless copycats for years to come. But whileResident Evil 4was critically-acclaimed at the time of this release, there are some elements to the game that have not aged particularly well, with critics pointing to the tank controls and the fact that hero Leon S. Kennedy can’t move and shoot at the same time. With the upcomingResident Evil 4remake, it seems those criticisms will be addressed.
Capcom announced theResident Evil 4remakeat the latest PlayStation State of Play presentation with a brief trailer that seemingly confirmed that the game will be a faithful remake, albeit with a darker tone than the original. Capcom then followed up on that trailer with a very brief gameplay video that it shared at its own Capcom Showcase event, showing fans a scene of Leon walking through the woods and up to the house where he will have his first enemy encounter.

TheResident Evil 4gameplay videois very brief, but fans think they’ve spotted a clue about a huge gameplay change in it. The video seemingly confirms that Leon will be able to move and shoot in theResident Evil 4remake, and while that seems like a small change on the surface, it could be huge in the grand scheme of things. It would completely change the way that players engage withResident Evil 4’s enemies and potentially have a major impact on combat strategies throughout the entire game.
It’s highly probable thatResident Evil 4’s tank controls have been done away withas well for something more in line with modernResident Evilgames. While it’s too early to say definitively, based on what’s been shown so far, it seems safe to say that theResident Evil 4remake will control similarly to other recent remakes in the series likeResident Evil 2andResident Evil 3. Fans will have to wait for Capcom to share more information about the project to be sure.
