Rising Storm 2is a hardcore large scaletactical FPSgame set during theVietnam War(1965 to 1975). Sort of like a more complex version ofBattlefield,Rising Storm 2is all about different classes of players working together as a cohesive unit in order to capture objectives and win the match. Not only do players need to learn how to work as a team; in many cases, that team may require them to step up become its leader.
This is where the commander class comes in. Think of thecommander classas the boss of bosses, as they are above squad leaders as far as the command structure is concerned and are charged with leading the team to victory over the enemy. A good commander can be what separates a win from a loss on the battlefield, so here are some tips on how to be an effective commander inRising Storm 2.

Talking to squad leaders is very important inRising Storm 2. Without them, a commander can do little to affect the outcome of the match. This is because it is the job of the squad leader tomark coordinates on the map,which are then used by the commander to call in fire support such as napalm or artillery. In the case of southern squad leaders, they also act as mobile respawn points, which gives them a certain amount of control over where troops are at times.

Because of this, using either the text chat or a mic to communicate with the team is of extreme importance. Squad Leaders need to know where best to put coordinates, when to update them, plus when and where to coordinate pushes/retreats. A communicative commander can heavily affect the outcome of a battle.
4Utilize The Radio
The radio is the most powerful tool in the commander’s arsenal. A commander that neglects to use the radio is not only of no use, but is an active detriment to their team by depriving it of one of its most important elements: leadership.
With a radio, however, the commander can operate from a top-down position and have a serious effect on the direction of the game. Through the radio, the commander has access to fire support options, reconnaissance, troop deployment, and a real timemap of the battlefield. All of these abilities come with drawbacks such as cool down timers, not to mention the possibility of friendly fire. A good commander knows when and where to use these abilities over the course of the match.

3Commander Abilities (North)
Commander abilities primarily refer to the commander’s ability to not only call in fire support for their team, but to respawnenemy troopsand conduct recon. In the case of the Northern forces (NVA and Vietcong), the commander has access toartillery, anti-air defenses, recon, ambush deployment, and Ho Chi Minh Trail.The key to using these five abilities often comes down to proper timing.

Artillery can be extremely powerful after recon when enemy positions have been revealed. Anti-air directly counters Southern air attacks such as Napalm strikes and AC-47 gunships, meaning it should be saved for those situations. The effectiveness of troop reinforcement abilities also depends on timing. Ambush spawns dead allies on the commander (meaning one ought to be near the fight). Finally, Ho Chi Minh trail reduces the team’s respawn time. All of these abilities can be invaluable when pushing on certain objectives or defending against attacks.
2Managing Support Options (South)
Southern commanders havea whole plethora of abilitiesto choose from over the course of the match. Like Northern commanders, they haveartillery barrages, recon, and forced respawn; however, Southern commanders also have much more potent offensive air capabilities. These take the form ofNapalm strikesand theAC-47 Spooky. The former is perfect for eliminating clusters of enemies, while the latter is very good at denying the enemy access to objectives.

As is the case with Northern commander abilities, recon is one of the most important abilities because it allows the commander to see enemy positions before calling in fire support. If enemy players are piled up behind an objective, a recon plane will reveal this and allow the commander to adjust their coordinates (via squad leaders). Forced respawn simply respawns all dead allies waiting in the queue, which is useful during important pushes, but if used carelessly can deplete spawn tickets faster.
1Utilize Radiomen
Radioman isone of the many classesavailable to the player at the beginning of each match. While they’re not always necessary for the commander to do their job,having one around can be importantdepending on what team the player is on. Southern forces don’t benefit from the Ambush Deployment ability (all dead allies spawn on commander) like Northern forces do. For this reason, it makes more sense for a NVA or Vietcong commander to lead from the front so to speak, and have a radioman with them so that they can be near the fight.
For a Southern commander, using a radioman is more about points and not having to deal with disappearing radios when their team loses an objective in territories. For them, a radioman simply means not having to go to designated radio locations on the map, which can be valuable depending on the circumstance.
