Facepunch Studio’s online PvP gameRusthas rolled out its Christmas update, which fans will be pleased to know comes with a bunch of content inspired by this festive period. As asurvival game with a lot of replay value, many have spent years getting to grips with the harsh and unforgiving nature of this particular world. However, despite how difficult it is to survive inRust, especially for newcomers, that doesn’t mean the developer isn’t down to celebrate the holidays.
It’s no secret thatnewRustplayers are going to have a tough timesurviving those first few nights. If they don’t succumb to starvation or dehydration, not to mention the dangerous wildlife that stalks the land, it’s almost inevitable that newbies will meet the end of another player’s bullet. The game seems to actively encourage gamers with that bit of a sadistic edge to seek out those less fortunate and make life difficult for them. It’s a tough world for beginners and those who have been playing for a while, but at this time of year, maybe people can put their differences aside.

Given the brutal nature ofRust, that’s unlikely. However, the Christmas event is now live, so at least all that surviving and killing will seem a little more festive. A new post on the game’s Steam page gives an overview of what fans can expect in this latest update. The event began on December 15 and will go on until July 01, 2025. It features a host of new content befitting the holiday season, which includes gingerbread and cake mines, complete with gingerbread NPCs that are, quite frankly, a little eerie. There are also some new items in the store, such as a snowman hat, snow machine, Christmas lights, and a Santa beard. It all seems like a jolly addition to the survival aspects of the game.
Rustreleased in early access in December 2013, which means the game is now nine years old. Things are still looking up for up the online title with updates aplenty, and for those who want an even more challenging time, there was a patch not long ago that actually added a hardcore mode, although this is optional. Evidently, Facepunch wants many of its fans to feel like they need to punish themselves even further.
Rustis considered by many to beone of the most brutal survival games around, up there withThe Long Dark,7 Days to Die, andEscape From Tarkov. However, it’s probably the difficulty that’s so appealing to a lot of players, and it’s unlikely that this year’s Christmas event will stop players from being trigger-happy.
