AlthoughSea of Thieveswas initially released as an Xbox console exclusive back in 2018, the game finally made its way to PlayStation 5 in April 2024. This move gave the game a new lease of life, andSea of Thieveswas one of the most popular PlayStation gamesupon its launch. It’s awesome to see how popular the game is, which is largely down to the frequent updates Rare has brought to the game. At the Xbox Games Showcase, Rare revealed an early look atSea of ThievesSeason 13 and committed to a July 25 release date for the update. ConsideringSeason 12 ofSea of Thieveswas released back in April, there’s a good gap between content updates. The main event of Season 13 is a brand-new world event, in which players can take charge of Flameheart’s flagship and “become the boss fight,” with players able to become the villain in-game. This is a first for the series, giving players a huge spin on the traditional gameplay formula inSea of Thieves.

Sea of Thieves Gives Early Look at Season 13

It isn’t clear exactly how this will work in practice. TheWorld Events inSea of Thievesare extremely common to find, and it’ll be interesting to see how Rare approaches numerous players playing the villain on the same server. It could simply be a case of villains being pitted against other villains, but it’s an interesting prospect to consider. With a short while still to go before the release ofSea of ThievesSeason 13, hopefully Rare will clarify this in the coming weeks.

It’s an awesome time to be jumping intoSea of Thieves. It has more content than ever before, and with more on the way, there’s plenty to enjoy for new and returning players. Importantly, the new player experience isn’t too overwhelming, meaning that anyone is able to hop into one of thebest co-op open-world gamesand have a good time with it, even if they’re not familiar with the mechanics.
