Gluttons for punishing games in Japan have the opportunity to giveSekiro: Shadows Die Twiceanother go with a newly announced Game of the Year edition. But with the game offering little in the ways of DLC or post-launch content, it might not be worth guiding Wolf through another journey.
FromSoftware announced today thatSekiro: Shadows Die Twicewill be getting a re-release. The Game of the Year edition is named so because of the numerous accolades the title received after it hit stores last year. It was praised by critics and players alike and was namedThe Game Awards' GOTY in 2019.

This new physical edition will only be available in Japan and will release solely for the PlayStation 4. When titles traditionally see a GOTY edition like this, it is loaded with goodies and packed with all of the DLC that came out since it was released. Given thatSekirohas received no additional content, the extras are incredibly sparse.
According to the game’s official website, what it does come with is a guidebook and a “special equipment package,” as well as fancy new packaging. With so little to offer, it appears to be geared toward hardcore collectors as opposed to those who have already experienced the game. The Game of the Year Edition will release later this year on October 29, which coincides with the release of afree update forSekirothat adds the new Reflections feature and more.
With the ultra-difficultDark Soulsseries seemingly at an end, the new IP grabbed the attention of gamers longing for that type of challenge.Sekirotruly filled that void, testing players once more, but also adding a change of scenery from a dark, grotesque medieval world to a vibrant fictionalized feudal Japan. FromSoftware failed to release any additional content post-launch, but thanks to thesimilarities betweenGhost of TsushimaandSekiro, gamers have had their desire for samurai adventure sated for the time being.
As for the future of the series, FromSoftware hasn’t released any information at this time. Though, due to the popularity of the title, it is certainly a good candidate for a sequel or two. Audiences will just have to hopeSekirodoesn’t go the way ofBloodborne, which still hasn’t received a sequel despite outcry from fans. However, with next-gen consoles close to release,Bloodborne 2and futureSoulsgamescould be on the horizon.
