Superheros are taking the television world by storm, and Amazon Prime Video is taking this opportunity to get in on all the action. The first confirmedSpider-Manspinoff will beSilk: Spider Society, but it won’t be the only one according to Sony.

For those who remember, Sony and Disney didn’t see eye to eye when it came to theTom Holland Spider-Man movies. After the second installment,Spider-Man: Far From Home, Sony and Disney had a hard time coming to a financial deal, leaving many to wonder if the third film,Spider-Man: No Way Home, was going to happen. However, the two companies came to terms with the fact that Sony will hold the screen rights to all of theSpider-Manfilms and characters, which is now allowing Sony to jump in on creating spin-offs of its own.

Amazon Studiosand Sony will introduce audiences to Cindy Moon, a.k.a. Silk. While no one is sure how many shows fans are getting, one isSilk: Spider Society, which will be the first to kick off the newSpider-Manuniverse when it debuts on MGM Plus domestically before launching globally on Prime Video. There is no word on how exactly the series will portray Moon’s backstory, but there should be some excitement aroundThe Walking Deadshowrunner Angela Kang, who will also be headingSilk: Spider Society. Kang will also serve as executive producer alongsideSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verseproducers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with whom she developed the series.

“I am beyond thrilled to be joining the Amazon Studios family for this next chapter of my career,” Kang said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the executive team on diverse, character-forward, watercooler shows for a global audience, and I’m so excited to be to dive in my first challenge - bringing Korean-American superhero Silk to life on screen.” Kang has a busy schedule, as she also has other projects on her hands, including aWalking Deadspinoff about Daryl Dixonand adaptations ofBlack SunandThe Post Mortal.

Silk is a Korean-American who got bit while on the same field trip as Peter Parker. However, instead of being able to hide her powers like Parker, Moon’s powers were revealed, and her parents sent her away to a wealthy man who kept her in a bunker for “safety.” Sometime later, Peter learns about Moon and frees her from the bunker, and the two instantly fall in love and connect through their powers and fighting crime together. Moon’s mission is to reunite with her missing family. Many are also wondering how Kang will go about the series, as the comic, released in 2014, didn’t take too well with fans. Readers found some plot lines confusing and possibly unnecessary.

Whilesuperheroes like Iron Man, Spider-Man and Captain America are great, it seems like the superhero world is dominated by males. Thankfully, the female supporting characters were amazing in these films. It’s inspiring to finally see more and more female superheroes, writers, and directors being front and center and making sure those voices are heard.
