The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimfollows the Dragonborn as they attempt to stop a powerful evil from waging war on the land of Skyrim. While ensuring Skyrim remains safe for all who dwell there is the main goal of the game, players will also have countless opportunities to pursue optional content to uncover unique rewards.

Some of the rewards earned inSkyrimcome in the form of pets that the Dragonborn can adopt. So long as players have a house available, it is possible to adopt a creature and ask them to go there. This is also the case for Meeko, but unlike some ofSkyrim’s other pets, this animal can be pretty difficult to locate.
Where To Find Meeko
The most reliable way to find Meeko is tofast-travel to Morthaland leave the village viathe path leading south. Once the Dragonborn is on the road, they mustfollow it to the westuntil they find a dog waiting for them.

Just after passing by Fort Snowhawk, the Dragonborn will reach a section of the path surrounded by trees; here,Meeko can be seen waiting on the right-hand side of the road.
Where To Find Meeko’s Shack
Upon approaching Meeko, the dog will sprint into the forest and headnorth toward a small house. If players failed to spot the creature during their time on the road, it is likely that the Meeko has already gone to the small house, so all players need to do is head north; if players have already encountered Meeko’s Shack and wish to return there, the shack itself is locatedsouth of Solitudeand west of Morthal.
After following Meeko insideMeeko’s Shack, the Dragonborn will be faced with a dead Nord lying on a bed. To the right, on top of the End Table, players can find the Nord’s journal, in which he explains that Meeko is a loyal companion. Interacting with Meeko, players will be given the option to ask him to follow, making him a companion. If Meeko is interacted with again, the option to send him home will appear.
How To Adopt Meeko
It’s possible to adopt Meeko if players have access to theHearthfireDLC. To do this, the Dragonborn must first adopt a child andbring Meeko to meet them. The child will then ask the Dragonborn if they can keep Meeko, and if players agree to the request, sending Meeko home will result in him heading back to the Dragonborn’s specified house instead of Meeko’s Shack, making him a permanent resident at their home.
If players decide they want Meeko as a companion again, they can make him one by interacting with him and selecting the"Follow me"option; whenever they wish to send him home, they can do so by interacting with him and selecting the"It’s time for you to go back home, dog"option.
