Summary

In Patch 10.2.5, Seeds of Renewal, players from bothWorld of Warcraftfactions can enter Bel’ameth, the new Night Elf city on Amirdrassil. This has led to a lot of confusion and frustration for manyWorld of Warcraftfans–especially considering the troubled history between the Night Elves and the Horde.

During the epilogue of Patch 10.2, Guardians of the Dream,World of Warcraftfinally gave Night Elves a new homenear the Dragon Isles. The finale of the story has players from both factions come together to celebrate the new city of Bel’ameth, which has already begun construction on the Patch 10.2.5 Public Test Realm.

However, one detail about the new city has left players baffled. The nascent town has everything players might want: Innkeepers, vendors, flight paths, and portals to other places around Azeroth. That said, on the PTR, outside a few bugged NPCs, Bel’ameth is currently neutral. According to reports fromWorld of Warcraft’s “Red Shirt Guy” Ian Bates, despite the Night Elves being allied with the Alliance, Horde characters can enter the city, use most of its facilities, and even purchase and use the new Darnassian shoulders, tabard, and cloak transmogs.

Pros and Cons of Bel’ameth Being Neutral in WoW

While members of the Horde helped protect Amirdrassil, the Night Elves are still an Alliance faction. Allowing members of the Horde to enter the city, let alone use Night Elf-specific transmogs, is a slap to the face for many fans, especially considering the faction was responsible for destroying their former home of Teldrassil duringBattle for Azeroth. These fans would prefer the city–or at least thenewWorld of WarcraftNight Elf transmogs–be restricted to Alliance characters only.

On the other hand, it makes sense that Horde players can enter Bel’ameth. Members of the faction were present when the city was established, so abruptly kicking them out would be a bit strange. Additionally,World of Warcraftis adding new quests and content to Bel’ameth, so cutting off half the playerbase from experiencing it while not adding equivalent Horde-centric stories in places like the Undercity could cause even more friction thanWorld of Warcraftadding the Earthen Allied Race to the Hordehas.

Either way, it is important to remember this is all on the Public Test Realm for now. It is possible Bel’ameth, or at least some of its facilities, will become Alliance-only in Patch 10.2.5, if not in future updates. At the very least, thenewWorld of Warcraftcity has portalsto Stormwind and other Alliance locations, but not Orgrimmar or Horde cities, so Bel’ameth will probably lean towards the Night Elves’ old allies, even if it stays partially neutral forever.
