Wakka and Lulu in Final Fantasy 10-2

Every mainline entry in this series features several characters, some of whom either spark off a romance or are already in a relationship before the game starts. There are several iconic couples inFinal Fantasy, with the best romances in the series still fondly remembered by players to this day.

10Wakka & Lulu (Final Fantasy 10)

Wakka certainly comes off as pretty annoying early on but slowly grows on players over time. His incessant racism towards the Al Bhed makes him seem rather simple, even if he does manage to come around to this notion later on.

While their romance isfar fromFinal Fantasy 10’s major focus, it’s still pretty entertaining to watch Wakka and Lulu awkwardly flirt and share some intimate moments together. Their relationship eventually blossoms into a marriage, and the couple even has a kid inFinal Fantasy 10-2.

9Squall Leonhart & Rinoa Heartilly (Final Fantasy 8)

It takes a while for players to warm up to Squall’s anti-social nature. It’s only later that they realize just how anxious Squall really is, preferring not to have anyone rely on him and staying aloof out of choice.

Thankfully, Rinoa manages to bring him out of his shell, with both characters developing a loving relationship in the process. It’s an endearing romance with some great highlights, being one ofthe biggest strengths ofFinal Fantasy 8.

8Locke Cole & Celes Chere (Final Fantasy 6)

Final Fantasy 6’s ensemble cast is a joy to interact with. Sure, there are some odd characters who don’t really get too much time to shine, but the vast majority of beloved characters in the game get more than their fair share of time in the limelight.

The best part about Locke and Celes' relationship is that this romance develops naturally over the course of the game withouttaking away too much attention from the other party members. This strong character writing has led to many fans loving this couple inFinal Fantasy 6.

7Zidane Tribal & Garnet AKA Dagger (Final Fantasy 9)

Final Fantasy 9is considered by many to be one of the greatest games in the series, paying homage to the franchise’s past and adopting its tropes in a clever and intriguing manner. From uncovering Vivi’s history to chasing down the enigmatic villain that is Kuja,Final Fantasy 9is a rollercoaster ride that never lets up.

The main character, Zidane, ends up developing some great chemistry with Garnet, the princess of Alexandria. Their romance is another one that doesn’t take up too much screen time but still feels organic and well-written, which are all of the hallmarks of a perfect video game relationship.

6Cecil Harvey & Rosa Farrell (Final Fantasy 4)

Cecil Harvey is one ofthe bestFinal Fantasyprotagonists of all time. After becoming disillusioned with his role as a Dark Knight, Cecil goes on a grueling trek to enlightenment and becomes a virtuous Paladin after proving himself.

This makes his relationship with Rosa even stronger, with both characters walking the path of good and becoming a better couple in the process. Players who want to see more of what this romance has to offer can check outThe After Years, a sequel toFinal Fantasy 4that many people don’t know about.

5Zack Fair & Aerith Gainsborough (Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core)

Zack Fair is a great character who needs no introduction, with his role in the story ofFinal Fantasy 7being quite major indeed.Crisis Coreplaces Zack front and centerin a tragic story with a heartbreaking ending.

His interactions with Aerith are quite endearing and make it clear that this duo would be a downright perfect couple. Unfortunately, before things could get serious, Zack went against Shinra and ended up losing his life in a heroic final stand.

4Noctis Lucis Caelum & Lunafreya Nox Flueret (Final Fantasy 15)

Final Fantasy15endured its fair share of development troublesbefore finally releasing to a fairly positive reception, even if the story itself required a bit of work. Noctis and Luna are a great couple, but there’s no denying that this relationship doesn’t really get too much screen time barring a few flashbacks and the like.

That being said, watching Luna die is still pretty shocking. It was clear that Noctis was heavily invested in this relationship, only for Ardyn to brutally cut it off. Even so, it’s one of the bestFinal Fantasyrelationships and one of the game’s most compelling story threads.

3Tidus & Yuna (Final Fantasy 10)

Tidus can come off as pretty cocky and irritating early on, but this boyish attitude is critical to show growth in this character. After meeting Yuna and developing feelings for her, it’s revealed that this pilgrimage to end Sin would only conclude after Yuna’s death.

Tidus decides to fight back against this fate to preserve their love, only to find out that he himself had died in Zanarkand and was brought back by the Fayth to fight against Sin and end this monster’s reign of terror once and for all. He succeeds, with his soul departing to the Farplane after tearfully bidding farewell to Yuna.

2Laguna Loire & Raine (Final Fantasy 8)

Laguna is a great character whom players get to control during the various flashback scenes inFinal Fantasy 8. Uncovering his story reveals the two flames in his life, with Raine being his dearest partner by a country mile.

In fact, it’s heavily implied that Squall is Laguna and Raine’s son, which makes for a neat secret that only keen-eyed fans would notice. It’s just a shame that Laguna never acknowledged this in front of Squall, but perhaps he never needed to.

1Cloud Strife & Tifa Lockhart (Final Fantasy 7)

Cloud’s relationship with Aerith leads to many people feeling that this romance would blossom over the course ofFinal Fantasy 7. As a result, it was really quite shocking whenSephiroth fell from the sky and snuffed out Aerith’s life.

This leads to Tifa filling up the void instead, which is fitting given the history she shares with Cloud. It’s highly implied that both she and Cloud share an intimate moment before heading to the Northern Crater, even though this is never stated explicitly.
