One of the most popular superheroes in the world,Spider-Mantruly needs no introduction. For the last several decades years, Spider-Man has been a prominent part of comic book and popular culture, starring in multiple different movie franchises, multiple animated TV shows, a plethora of video games, and of course, countless comic books. A rare case where the alter ego is just as popular as the hero,Spider-Man and Peter Parkercombine to make one of the most compelling fictional characters of all time, and the hero’s popularity is only continuing to grow.

Being such a beloved character, it’s only natural that Spider-Man has appeared in countless video games over the last few decades, either as the main star, or as a secondary playable character in a range of ensemble games. One such ensemble game isLEGO Marvel Superheroes, which takes the usualLEGO licensed game formulaand gives it an open-world makeover along with an original story that merges the Avengers, X-Men, and the rest of the Marvel universe. Though Spidey plays a pivotal role in bothLEGO Marvel Superheroesand its sequel, he’s still relegated to the sidelines for a lot of it, and with the character being somehow more popular than ever, it might be time for him to get his very own solo LEGO Spider-Man spinoff.

It’s The Perfect Time for a Solo LEGO Spider-Man Game

Spider-Man has never been more popular. While his current comic book arc is anything but spectacular, Spider-Man is having quite the year regardless. Coming hot off the heels ofSpider-Man: No Way Home,Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versedelivers yet another excellentmultiversal Spider-Man storyfilled with intense action, groundbreaking visuals, and plenty of heart and personality. On top of that, fans have just three months to wait before the highly-anticipatedMarvel’s Spider-Man 2finally releases, which is sure to be another top-tier experience from Insomniac Games.

Spidey hype is at an all-time high, and it’s the perfect time for LEGO to seize that opportunity and create its very own soloLEGO Spider-Man game. The perfect backdrop for a solo LEGO Spidey game is already clear, with the best option being a Spider-Verse story that brings together all of Marvel’s different iterations of the character. WhileAcross the Spider-Versecontains over 100 Spider-People, only a handful are really focused on, and a potential LEGO Spidey game could easily stand out by choosing to highlight a different set of Spider-themed heroes, some of which have already appeared in previous LEGO titles.

AcrossLEGO Marvel Superheroes 1and2, andLEGO Avengers, multiple playable Spider-Man variants have already appeared. Classic Spider-Man, Scarlet Spider, Spider-Woman, Spider-Gwen, Superior Spider-Man,Tom Holland Spider-Man, and a good few more have all been playable in previous LEGO Marvel games, meaning that their character models are ready for the taking. Spider-Man’s web-swinging and unique fighting mechanics could also be ripped right out of previous LEGO Marvel games, though a solo Spider-Man LEGO game should give players a deeper set of mechanics with more complex player interaction, such as having a web-swinging system more akin toMarvel’s Spider-Man, as opposed to just pressing the jump button and holding the stick forward to swing.

It might seem like a step backward for a LEGO game to focus solely on just one Marvel hero, but of all of them,Spider-Manis the best character to base a whole game around.Spider-Manhas the right rogues' gallery, an expansive setting primed for open-world gameplay, a plethora of potential additional playable characters, and arguably most importantly, the lighthearted tone needed for a LEGO game.
