The Forestis one of the most fascinating and intricate survival games of the past decade. There’s a lot for players to learn as they venture around the island, crafting all sorts of items and learning how to fight back against the terrifying cannibals and mutants.
There are a lot of different weapons that players can use against their enemies on the island. They range from traps and walls used defensively to explosives and other projectiles that can be used to fight back. There are plenty of weaponry options, but it can be difficult to choose which projectiles are best in each situation, especially under the pressure ofone of the best modern horror games.

10Throwable Rocks
For Desperate Times & Distractions
One of the easiest projectiles to find inThe Forestis small rocks. These simple throwables can be kept in a rock bag, but they aren’t generally considered that strong of a weapon.
Small rocks can be thrown on their own, or used in a slingshot. Either way, their primary use is likely to be for distracting or scaring off individual cannibals, so they don’t engage in a fight. If players need to fight numerous enemies or mutants, they’ll want to look for alternative projectiles, showing one ofthe most realistic sides of the game.

9Molotov
For Mutants & Escapes
The Molotov is one of the more fun and accessible projectiles in the earlier part ofThe Forest. Even in the earliest caves, players will be able to find plenty of alcohol and cloth. With the lighter that’s always on them, this is all players need to craft these projectiles.
Molotov projectiles can be thrown at individual cannibals, but this is a waste of their potential. Instead, save them for mutants. The extra fire damage will massively deplete their huge health bars. Alternativvely, use them to escape a difficult situation featuring many enemies.

8Arrows
For Individual Cannibals
One of the more common and useful projectiles inThe Forest, many different types of arrows can be found around the island. From modern arrows to poisoned and fire arrows, players won’t struggle to gather the materials required to stay stocked up, thanks tothe great crafting system inThe Forest.
Arrows are best for individual cannibals. It will take many arrows to bring down mutants, but a simple headshot with an arrow from the modern bow will get an instant kill on most normal cannibals on the island.

7Bomb
For Crowd Control & Caves
Normal bombs aren’t as easy to craft as Molotov projectiles. However, they can be crafted if players can find enough circuit boards and watches. The maximum capacity for bombs is low, and for this reason, they are not to be used lightly.
Unfortunately, a simple bomb won’t necessarily be great against mutants. These creatures move too much for players to reliably hit them. Instead, normal bombs are best for crowd control against many different cannibals, particularly in the enclosed caves around the island, although they can be used in traps instead.

6Crossbow Bolt
Though it isn’t as commonly used or seen as the more traditional bow and arrow, players can find a crossbow inThe Forest. This weapon works as expected, although ammunition is much scarcer. Unlike arrows, crossbow bolts cannot be crafted.
This means that players don’t often use this projectile. However, when they do, crossbow bolts work better at a short range than arrows, meaning when individual cannibals get close to the player, they can be used effectively. Against larger mutants, they aren’t recommended. Players should run if they’re close enough to make good use of the crossbow.

5Sticky Bomb
For Mutants
The sticky bomb is one of the best explosives inThe Forest. Bombs are a great tool against many different types of enemies, but sticky bombs are much more reliable. The sticky bomb is made simply by adding tree sap to the bomb.
When made sticky, a bomb will stick to whatever they hit after being thrown. This makes them much better for use against mutants, which move around a lot, making it hard to hit them with regular bomb damage. Because of their high health, being able to attach bombs directly to them makes for a fantastic response to their power level.

4Old Gun Ammo
For Mutants & Individuals
One of the side quests that players can go onin the engaging survival game, but never really need to completeThe Forest, is finding and assembling the old gun. Pieces of the gun can be found at various locations all over the island, and assembling it is a difficult undertaking that most players never manage.
However, when a player does find a piece, there will usually be ammunition that fits the gun nearby. The gun and its ammo are good in most situations, but it can be difficult to continue finding ammo. Players should be careful about how much of it they expend. It is better saved for several cannibals that must be fought simultaneously, but can also be a strong solution to mutant bosses.

For Distractions
One of the strangest things that can be crafted inThe Forest, the head bomb is exactly what it sounds like. Various items can be crafted out of cannibals in the game, particularly their bones. But even without removing the flesh, players can turn the severed heads of their enemies into projectile weapons.
Unfortunately, head bombs cannot be stacked, meaning players can only carry one at a time. Additionally, they are more effort than they are worth. The fuse is longer than other explosives, meaning that players have to be even more certain their enemies will stay still until it goes off. Head bombs are best used in caves, since enemies are less likely to get out of the way before the bomb goes off in the enclosed space.

2Dynamite
Dynamite isn’t craftable, but can be found in plenty of locations across the map. It doesn’t form huge stacks, but players can hold several at once, and use these for several things. Like regular bombs, dynamite can be hard to aim, meaning players don’t want to use it forfighting individual cannibals in this dark open-world.
The best use for dynamite will be against larger groups of cannibals, or mutants at close range if players can guarantee that they will hit before the mutant moves away. Dynamite is a classic early-game explosive, but it is best to be saved for dire situations, or again used within the confines of caves.

1Flare Gun Ammo
The flare gun is another useful tool inThe Forest.Though ammo can be hard to stock up on, players won’t need many bullets to make good use of the weapon. The flare gun isn’t used to try and search for help or an escape, although it could help notify other players of the location in multiplayer mode.
Instead, it is primarily used to set opponents on fire. When players are facing a mutant that they don’t want to get close to, they can deal a huge volume of damage by staying far away and setting them on fire with the flare gun. It’s also particularly useful against the final bossif players get that far in the fascinating narrative.
