The roguelike survival mode inThe Last Of Us 2 Remastered, No Return, features plenty of different encounters, boss fights, and playable characters, like Joel and Tommy. Immersing within No Return is easy, but beating the challenging encounters is another story in itself. Whether it’s Scars, infected, Rattlers, or WLF,players are in for a good time, but a hard time. Yet, these No Return tips might help beginners to master themselves.

6Utilise The Environment
Manipulate Enemy Patterns By Staying Behind Cover Or Climbing Objects
Every encounter in The Last of UsPart 2Remastered: No Return features a well-designed environment, with objects placed in such a way as to benefit or deter the player. These objects are great for cover, high ground, or simply utilizing traps to make the environment a controllable warzone. Players shouldn’t be shy to hide behind a crate or wooden box and use it to protect themselves from gunfire or being spotted.
If players are fighting enemies with guns, charging at them head-on is a death sentence, as they will simply be shot down. Staying behind cover means that enemies won’t be so quick to shoot, and there’s a support objective in place to negate bullet damage. Against infected, cover can be used as high ground, so Runners have to climb in order to get close to the player, thus giving the player time to shoot their enemy ina vulnerable state.

5Study Encounter Paths
Each Encounter Offers Different Challenges
There’s an element of freedom when it comes to encounters in No Return, and players might find an easier or harder route depending on their play style. It’s always a good idea to go in with a clear head and to know what they are up against. Some paths might benefit the player, such as ones where they will have an ally or a positive multiplier that doesn’t turn their enemies entirely invisible.
There are different encounters that players need to look out for and decide if it’s worth it for the loot, despite the additional challenge. Sometimes, it’s better to study the encounter path and pick the easier option simply to progress, as players will see a less challenging bout of enemies beforereaching the boss as Abby, Ellie, or other playable characters.

4Don’t Forget Rewards
Parts, Supplements & Currency Are Earned For Encounter Completion
The three core aspects of getting better loot and skills come from parts, supplements, and currency. These three scavenged items are not found within the encounters like ammunition and crafting gear, but instead, are awarded to the player within a chest once they head back to their home base. It’s vital that players pick these up, as they do not stack with other completed encounters.
Even better still, is knowing when to use these rewards. Heading over to the gun locker, players might see a weapon that they crave, or re-roll to discover new skills or craftables. Using parts in order to upgrade weapons to venture forward down the difficult path, and supplements to upgrade health and other aspects of their character, shows how important rewards are.

3Know When To Avoid Combat
Avoiding Combat Saves Health & Ammo
In some encounters, like Hunted, players simply have to wait out the timer and survive as more enemies spawn in, attempting to locate and kill the player. However, there are some neat tricks that players can utilize in No Return that will ensure that they get to see this encounter through to completion, often withoutexpending a single bullet or punch.
Players can hide, as the enemies will not know where the player is. Hiding is a great choice, as it means the encounter can be completed with full rewards, all whilst the player has lost no health, resources, or ammo. The easiest way to do this is in maps with tall grass, as players can go prone. However, if enemies are stepping into the grass, it might be an idea to aim a silenced weapon, just in case.

2Stealth Is Key
Not Alerting The Enemies Increases Survival Chances
Stealth is a major aspect of The Last of UsPart 2’s gameplay. Players can crouch and crawl around, avoiding the gaze of enemies that will alert their partners to ensure the player is overrun, with death expected. Since No Return only gets harder, it’s best to keep confrontation to a minimum, and only engage in combat when players have the advantage. Toeven the odds, it’s best to start taking these enemies out, one by one.
All characters can grab enemies and kill them from behind, regardless of shiv or pocket knife. Craft silencers, use bows, and get the drop on enemies to eliminate the playing field of enemies before proceeding, as each enemy that joins the fray will easily overrun and overwhelm players, and let their allies know.

1Avoid Melee Combat
Melee Will See Players Overrun & Killed
Melee combat is rarely a good idea. Whilst somecharacters like Ellie and Abbycan dodge, other characters like Tommy and Joel, cannot. Whilst melee combat is essential to players who have been caught and have no ammo, it’s not really a good idea, as infected enemies rely entirely on aggressive and fast strikes, and they caneasily overwhelm players with their hordes.
If players are punching human levels to death, they are also in for a bad time, as some enemies will have guns, and will have an easy target to shoot at. Whilst some modifiers add advantages to melee combat, they are never worth running into an encounter expecting bruised knuckles.
