Launching on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One late last year,The Outer Worldswas a rousing success for Obsidian Entertainment, acting as something of a spiritual successor to the studio’s iconic work onFallout: New Vegas. It boasted a branching storyline that would acknowledge the player’s decisions, a world filled with meaty quests to undertake, and some wonderfully tongue-in-cheek humor that took cues from sci-fi classics likeFirefly.

Its Nintendo Switch port, however, was a very different story. Launching earlier this year, the game was a mess on the handheld console, with players reporting terrible textures, an abysmal frame rate, and several frustrating bugs. Luckily, Obsidian has been vigilant in improvingThe Outer Worlds’performance on the Switch, announcing today that a new patch is coming to the game.

Officially debuting on October 21, it seems the update will look to fix a number of theThe Outer Worldsport’s biggest issues, including the blurry textures that currently appear in most of the game’s hub areas. The pictures that accompany the patch’s announcement give an early tease of its biggest changes, with the first image highlighting a view of the sky from Terra-2. The in-game screenshot features much richer foliage, with new trees visible in the shot as well as a more detailed skybox.

The second picture is significantly more impressive, highlighting the improvements to the textures in Stellar Bay. Seeing as the blurry textures within most city structures were posted around the internet frequently when the port first released, it’s good to seeObsidianfocusing on fixing the issue. The detail on the walls and walkways of the city looks significantly better than it did on initial release, while the gun that’s also in frame sports more definition.

While the game is never going to be able to boast the smooth frame rate and excellent graphics of its PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One counterparts, it’s nice to see that Obsidian hasn’t abandoned the port and its playerbase. Alongside the announcement of the update, the team claims thatThe Outer Worldswill be on sale onNintendo Switchon October 22. It also advises players to stay tuned for more details on the official features of the update, clarifying that they’ll be released very soon.
